My wolves

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I read somewhere (probably from practical fish keep magazine) thats gold wolf love to hunt in a pack so a shoal of gold wolf would be more interesting to watch than a solo one :)

In the wild they school together and are found by themselves. But they will shoal together for you in a home aqaurium for sure. Would love some golds in a roomy tank.

Yeah I might end up doing so. Once the gold and "traihara" get around to 9-10" mark. they will be going in the 240g. I dont worry about the wolves fighting.its more of the existing stock that i have. dovii is #1 concern then the cichla. The first ever wolf i put in there. only lasted a week. Found him chewed up from the dovii. Then I added the curu which went smoothly(month/year later). He wasnt soo timid or lets say a wimp LOL. The gold is very active and nothing like a hoplias or ery. Acts like a bass and hoards everything hahaha. Ill make a vid just of the gold and the other wolf. I also have red and kesselleri. which plan to add(60g Growout). tried red with the gold. gold acted like piranha started to bite the crap out of him. wes still has goldies up for grabs. get one!
With me I just have to take everyone into extreme consideration I don't want to unneccissarily lose fish or anything. And my curu is my only concern but he's also the main fish. And your dovii is big! I saw the vid on YouTube, definitely wanna grow them out to a decent size and hope for the best, good luck with that, how big are they now? The gold if active like that may trigger the others to attack him so be careful. And if you can pm me about the kesselleri would be helpful to get some info on the behavior and I will tell you my plans there as well, thank you. I know golds like to shoal but my tank simply isn't big enough to accommodate 6-8 with the already remaining stock and I rather stock my tank to my current footprint than plan for future cause I don't know when or how much bigger I will be able to get. We will see I have to plan and such. Hopefully I can get one. I assume it'll be around 170 if I were to get one now.

The trio next to eachother, and also cleared up but you can't tell with the quick blurry pic, sorry

I only had luck in mixing hoplias with erythrinus. hoplias seem more chill then ery's. there mean little bastards. I tried moving over the red. the gold went crazy on him LOL. and the other wolf didnt do jack crap. did not care. I got some good vids of them so Ill post them up in a few days or so. My gold wolf i had my orino ate him LOl.

For schooling of gold wolves. I think i rather have one. They are very aggressive feeders. I could magine a wolf pack!

Yea my ery and mala are chill, the curu throws his weight around sometimes, maybe it's just his mood or he feels he needs to keep the others in check, not sure lol. He gives a bit of a chase maybe once a week that I see to the mala and jag, ery he's been treating like the bichirs so far. And doesn't always work the first try maybe you could have tried again, maybe it was because the ery shows more of a resemblance than a Hoplias, and is also more active causing it to bother the hoplerythrinus. And the gold that was with the hop. sp. got eaten? I'd be upset.. Guess you know the sp. can't go in yet. And yea I read they're more aggressive feeders solo. A pack would be cool to see hunt.

Small update: I assume curu ate the ery. though I don't see why he hasn't eaten the bichirs as they are the same thickness, maybe the length attributes to it, but it was kinda my fault I skip feedings sometimes and I've done so with the ery in there and everything was fine but this time I guess the curu didn't feel like waiting. Also I just came home today to see someone beat the jag up bad, guess someone got tired of his attitude. He does puff his gills at everyone so I guess he had it coming. As far as that everything's been fine. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Sorry for your loss but at least I knew someone had a crazy wolf like mine!
Lol it happens, and it's understandable he viewed the ery as food, he was half the length and less than half the girth, I blame myself.

Tough loss. Hope ur tank doesn't have any more problems.
