My Xanthic Lepisosteus Platyrhincus...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
On an aside, do you guys think my longnose gars look too skinny? They are about 10" and 12" respectively. The golden gar photo shoot documents some good looks at them from all angles. I cannot decide if it is normal longnose thinness or if mine are not getting enough food in the feeding storm.

That thing doesn't even look real its so bright.... Gorgeous gar. How satisfying is it to have something that special in your tank?

whats that elongated goldfish in there? ;)

ALL young longnoses look skinny. Yours do not appear any thinner than others I have seen at that size. If they are eating fine then I wouldnt sweat it. The big 3 to 4-footers I catch in Florida sure arent thin though. Those are thick and truly beasts and make these among my favorite gars. I find it unfortunate that thier aquaria counterparts appear so thin. I suppose it potentially changes after they reach a certain size though and they start to pack on girth. Time will tell.

You must have some major balls putting all those fish together and more on the way! I would be so nervous. I think if it were me, that gold gar would be in a 150gal all to him self..... Glad the FRT is outta there though! Looking good, he is more "golden" than I thought. Definitely looks un-real, in a good way! :D

Haha, I do not have many options right now. The FRT has been moved to turtle prison for a week or two and several other small tanks are all full of fish that have been moved around over the last month.

I've had to take some chances to prepare for this big tank project but I am sure it will be worth it when its over.

It is a very very incredible feeling. You guys know how long I was trying to make this purchase... it feels like a year ago that Lep and I first discussed our home tax credit in reGARds to this specimen.

I was simply amazed that it was still available by the time I was ready for it.

Your longnose looks a little thin but I think they all pretty much look like that at any thing under 14". And when they get bigger it's much easier to hand feed them so you can pack on the weight in no time. One day I hope to get one of them golden gars, it's an outstanding fish and makes me very envious.

Thanks RedDwarf.

My longnoses are eating good, so I suppose I will not worry. They've definitely put on a couple of inches since I got them.
