My Yellowtail Barracuda Grow Out

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've always wanted these guys! I've been looking for a group for a couple years now, but they are no where in socal for some reason. You guys were talking about Odoes with this sp. before, my Odoe seems very timid and peaceful so would that be an exception? My Odoe only has eaten live blackworms and cut up market shrimp since 3 inches so I don't think he'll go after another fish. Don't mean to derail, but I've been trying to build this stock for a while and all of a sudden I read this. This is a great thread though! I'm subscribing for some nice updates :headbang2

thanks man. I personally think theres always exceptions. it might work but id make sure if you were going to try it to get the cudas a little larger then ur odoe. just cuz itll be able to put up a better fight if something does go wrong instead of having no chance at all. everyone said the yellowtail cudas are timid compared to reds but mine would smash feeder fish from half way across the tank as soon as they seen them. they are just as aggressive as my old gatf pack.

Cool thanks for the tip! Yeah I would think that they both are great predators. The reason why I want yellows though is because I've heard they're easier to keep tankmates with. They sound awesome though coming from you and I need to get my hands on a few!

Yea i doubt these guys would attack anything they cant fit in their mouth. however they did eat a small commet that i used to test their water before they went in. the commet was about 1/2 their size and about as thick then the cuda. i just got 3 new small cudas in a seperate tank. they were labled as red tails but im not so sure they are. they have the same elongated body as the yellowtails, have a hooked mouth, very large teeth compared to their size and the caudal fin has red and yellow on it. one of the 3 has a bit of red on both lobes but the other 2 have it just on the top lobe. they also have 2 very dark stripes down their sides. any ideas what they could be? ill put up some pics soon. i picked them up for 15 each so whatever it turns out to be ill be content.

thats what im thinking they are. they eat like pigs. they are just under 3" right now so im hoping they keep their colouration and not just lose it like a lot of adult fish do. ill post pics tonight to see what you guys think. for all i know they could be very young reds or yellows and just have a weird colouring.

jurenus catfish or a bunch of nice bichirs. Amen!

alright haha. just picked up a large hujeta gar to be their tankmate. hes a little larger then they are. hes about 7". sorry couldnt get pics tonight but will be up tomorrow

you got pictures comparing the two different ones you got?

I just got a batch and there seems to be two different looking sp. but at the same time they are almost the same? if that makes sense.

I have mine with two existing hujetas and they look nice together!
