My zoo update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hardly! That's the gov't cost. Real world, something like this could have been done for much less.

Thanks for the support guys.
This morning we are tenting in the main pool and setting up a venting system so the sand blasting can start tomorrow.

good luck with your exibhit hope u get everything up and running soon

Today (10 April) the sand blasting to remove paint from the main pool will be done. :woot: We're still having an issue with water coming out from behind the pool walls, so tomorrow I get to go in a drill holes in the lower sections to allow it to drain out.

While we are on this major "re-do because nobody listened" rampage, it looks like they are also going to try and fix the filter issues. This should be fun. Anyone know how to get a 42" sand filter by a 36" door frame??? I shouldn't complain, at least it's getting done.

Sawzall, lol

Hey Zoodiver, do your araraimas ever lose scales? save them, dried and bleached they can be embossed or imprinted with your Zoo's logo (or MFK!) and sold as novelty items, they make excellent finger nail files and a few years back I saw them sold @ $3 each.

$3 each! I've got a pot of gold in my closet and didn't even know it! I pick them up from time to time. But I plucked a 12' adult we lost in Dallas. I have a 33 gallon trash can over flowing with full size dried scales!!

I've got several types of things left from my animals: Croc and shark teeth, various scales and stingers, piranha skulls and skeletons, spider crab molts, bleached coral etc....

Want to donate some to the site, maybe we could paint the MFK logo on them and use them as runner up prizes for the lotteries, drilled for a keychain they would be cool and they do make great files. Heheh.
It sounds like you have an nice collection of oddities

Take some pics of all that stuff!!! I would love to get my hands on some of those scales! They would make an interesting wind chime!

Jen ;)

Here are some updated shots. The arapaima pool is cleared of paint (first pic) and the stingray pool is done now as well. The second pic shows how we had to tent in the ray pool while sandblasting. With all of the plants already in place, we couldn't disturb them. We're working on re-doing some of the rockwork and sealing the cracked areas this week. I'm really un-impressed with the quality from the first contracted company. Hopefully, next week I'll be able to test fill it again.
