Who actually did the work?

The zoo hired a company called "Theme Scapes". It's a local place. Somehow, the zoo was lead to believe they had lots of experience building zoo exhibits. Sadly (as we now know) they've never done a fish exhibit before this. Because the zoo managers were under the impression this company knew what they were doing, they looked at my advice like I was a kid off the street. (Of course at the time, having a new 26 year old come into a group of 'good old boys' probably lended itself to that impression.)

The crew I've got going on it now is another local contractor. However, the major change is I get to say what the process is now (more or less) and these guys are very willing to listen, and have open discussions about how to approach things and what to consider when working. It's coming a long way. This new crew is also removing some of the historic looking fish tanks from our aquatics building. The tanks are leaking plywood and glass units that were made about 20 years ago. They will be replaced with custom acrylic tanks (desinged by me) to house all of our African cichlids and the archers.

awesome man.. cant wait for pics, and especailly to see this all done

Well, I started to fill the first pool this morning in order to test all the work we've done. The plan is to run in 48 hours and dump it to see if I get water leaching back out of the concrete. (I hope not!) If we do, we seal those areas and try again. Once we've got it solid, it will be dumped, painted and then filled/dumped to deal with the fresh paint. So, if all goes well, I'll be ready to start cycling it again in 4-6 weeks.
I should mention that there has been pressure to cycle the tank with our display fish. I'm not sure what I feel on that. I know it can be done with volumes this size. I also feel the pressure from the public to get this thing open (being that Spring season is here). But I also realize my primary concern in the animals. I guess we'll see how it all works out.

Again, thanks for all the support! You guys rock :headbang2

Good luck with everything, can't wait to see pics it sounds like it will be wonderful.

Very nice, best of luck finishing the project without too much more hassle. I'm going to be traveling to MI in later august and wish i had the time to go check that out. again best of luck and I can't wait to see some pics.

Wow! I haven't looked through this thread in a while. So who gave the OK to this company without a little back ground check? Oh well, good luck with it. I'm sure you'll pull it off right this time.
