My zoo update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very impressive!

Starting to go over the check list of things to make sure everything is covered before the contractors sign it over to us. I found some little things here and there, but one thing really stuck out that should have been pretty obvious.....

There's no fill line to the tank from our RO system!!!!!

Guess they'll have to fix that one huh? There's about five different ways to backwash each sand filter, but I guess they didn't think about putting water back in!

how is the set up coming along?

I've got to fill and dump with city water one more time before filling with RO water and starting to cycle it late next week. Hopefully tomorrow (Monday), more of the fish will show up for the quar. area (3 silver aros, 2 black pacu and a RTC).

The arapaima pool is drained waiting for the contractor to fix some issues with design that I pointed out. Once they are addressed, I'll dump and fill with city water three times, then fill with RO and start that cycle as well.

As for now, I'm daily netting out leaves and misc debris. I backwash the sand filter every other day or so, just to keep them clean while the calcuim and other minerals leech out of the rock work. I'd hate to have to replace a filter before the fish hit the exhibit!

Currently filling the arapaima pool and stingray stream with city water one last time tonight. Going to run it 48 hours, then dump. Today was a crazy day. Aside from that system, I ran all over town trying to find a new O ring for a 3" valve that was broken. I want to know who let all of my co-workers go on vaccation at the same time, leaving us short staffed while trying to open a new exhibit!?

Right now I'm trying to track down a lost shipment of fish from NJ Aquarium. They were to be here early this afternoon. No luck so far at even locating them!! US Air has lost 5 giant archers!!! :screwy:

DAMn sucks. Update us when you put the fishes in the pool

48 hours later....My archers were found by US Airways. They told me that they were at the airport 8 different times. Two boxes ended up on two flights that were several hours apart...and DAYS late. Sadly, the water dropped into the 40's!!!!!! The boxes they were shipped in were soaked and broken. I'd suggest anything BUT US Airways for shipping fish.

They told me they didn't think they were a 'priority'. It looks like they let them sit outside awhile. Doesn't the label reading "TROPCIAL FISH - KEEP WARM" mean anything? Or how about "THIS SIDE UP"????

Anyway, I've got 3 silver aros, 1 redtail cat and 2 black pacu showing up tonight around 10PM. I'll take some pics when they get here and post them asap for you guys.

I have to be in the UK dont I?
