My zoo update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I will never let that original company touch the exhibit again. I worked with another crew to do it. My favorite spot isn't shown in that picture. there was a spot up under a log that I could stick my arm in!! It was all exposed wire mesh.

As a side note, the city is in a court battle now over this mess. We're not paying because they failed to provide us with a usable exhibit. Cross you fingers!

Today I'm dosing the stingray pool with ammonia to get the ball rolling on that one. I've got the main pool drained so I can rub out the acrylic panel on last time. There are a few scratches already. Hopefully do the final fill later this week.

filling those cracks must have been a huge job. how do you find a contractor to build large aquariums, pool companies?, is there someone out there that specializes in that sort of thing? I am sure theres loads of MFK'ers that would love to have them over to their homes...

There are several places that specialize in constructing zoo exhibits. Sadly, they didn't go with one for this. They hired a local company to do it. There was some confussion. Apparently, the zoo was left with the impression they had done this type of work prior to this display. After the fact we found out this was their first try (and the workmanship showed it).

A lot of the major facilities do the work in house. It's much nicer that way. You can work directly with them, and they have an idea about animal husbandry, no just making it look nice.

I finished up rubbing down the acrlyic panel for the main pool this morning and started what I hope to be the final fill. I took a ton of pictures, but need to resize them at home before I can post 'em.

cant wait to see it done
