Wait you were perma banned??
Sorry I was inactive all summer and fall so I have no idea what happened. That's when all the probation member stuff came to be right?
Yes I was, I was being a little **** and fighting with everyone and talking about stuff that I had no experience with, just being an awful person in general. I finally crossed the line, got banned, I think I more or less demanded to be unbanned, eventually accepted it, sent a true apology letter , I then got unbanned.

I thought I could bs my way out of the ban but they didn’t fall for it lmao. You can ask around and you’ll find a lot of people who can tell you what happened.

I’m glad I got banned since it was the wake up call I needed to stop being the troll I was being. This site is an incredibly useful tool and a I didn’t acknowledge how easily I could lose it until I lost it.

I remember being mad at one part since I couldn’t even look at mfk because every time I went onto mfk it went to the “you are banned” page. Took me a while to realize I could erase all my history or go to incognito to view it lol.

Thanks for the kind words.
One thing I've wanted to do and been putting off for a long time is studying how anaerobic bacteria can affect the aquarium microbiome. To do this I'd first have to identify common strains, study their predators, chemical byproducts, etc. To fully complete this study will take several months but when it's done I will post my findings on here. Does anybody know anything about this? Effects? Genera?
duanes duanes do you know anything about this since you're a microbiologist and all?
To my knowledge there have never really been any thorough studies on aquarium anaerobes, I hope to shed some light on this topic.
You may be almost 3 years younger than me but I bow to your knowledge in that subject lol, have fun with it bud.

So when you're banned you can't even look at the site? Not just not be able to post or comment?

The problem with anaerobes in aquariums, is they stink.
If you ever have occasion to get near an anaerobic digester you will see why they are not wanted.
Anaerobic digestion does occur in detritus pockets that form under the substrate, when they do bubble up they smell like rotten eggs (Hydrogen sulphide) and if strong enough can kill certain fish in a tank.
Anoxic bacteria have been used in plenums under the substrate, and in nitrate reactors for years, especially in salt water tanks, with deep sand beds.
I tried in the 80s, but my cichlids (at the time) kept digging away, destroying the anoxic environment needed.

Studies of these kind are usually very costly, and I doubt many businesses in the aquarium trades with their narrow profit margin would underwrite one.
If you want to pursue a Masters in Microbiology, convince your profs that it would be a relevant endeavor to use as your thesis, this might be the best way to get it done.

I don't have the credentials or experience to conduct a formal underwritten study. My "studies" are simply observations from a controlled experiment.
I'm working towards a mathematics degree, this is just something I do in my spare time.
