I'll agree that had something to do with it, but i also think he realized it would be better to heal 100% then to play hard for nothing. He sure didn't show nutz by picking the second option but he showed off his large brains.
I think they should have taken a big man instead of Deron. The guy isn't as good as CP3, looks ugly and can't really play the 2 as effectively as any of the other guards. I see where you have to have kid for some vet leadership, but why not double up on vet leadership and offer a spot to somebody we know is going to compete in the post like KG? I know he's getting a little old but he still has that drive and is top 5 in the league still, and what are foreign countries going to do against a beast like KG? Throw Yao on him and watch him get torched?
I'm not sure who all was offered a spot on there as i seriously can't remember but it seems they offer spots to the younger guys and a select few vet gaurds.
You could probably have a better starting 5 with the people they didn't pick to go to China.
pg - Billups
sg - If healthy T-mac, or somebody like an Allen or J. Johnson who are better at spreading the deffense then Redd
sf - J-smoove is still developing so a Pierce, Marion or R. Jefferson to start might end up being better
pf - KG end of story except a Duncan for backup
c - a pure rebounder or throw in Duncan...I'm not saying Amare because he didn't want to go to the olympics Chandler is a reserve so Camby would help out the cause
Might not sound as great as the team USA but i'm betting with a mix of a lot more vets and more deffensive minded players this team could probably beat the starting lineup in international ball....probably not NBA ball though.
babling on i suppose and i'm sure one of you will rip apart my proposition, so i'm off to go fishing
