Need a new computer. iMac???

2gb GeForce graphics, 6 gigs of ram, 2 terabyte HD, sound blaster HD, 3.2GHZ and 27 inch LED monitor for about a thousand, that's what I had built, can't get much. Better than that

What video card?
 
My bad, the graphics are ATI. HD 6900 series. My build is about a year old so they probablly have even better stuff now, but I can max out any game I've played on it. Best computer I've ever had, I'm glad I went local and not dell, my dell was. Ever as good as this is

Im work a lot on illustrator and photoshop and i can tell you macs freeze up too...

It all comes down to the hardware how smooth it will run and has nothing to do with it being a PC or Mac...

Like try working with AI files that are over 180mb + on a mac 5 years old and tell me how smooth it runs... Coz i can guarantee if you try and open more than 2 / 3 files at the same time like that your comp will start to suffer...

Very true, it's all about the hArdware under the hood, still a pc is cheaper for that hardware than a Mac is. And it's really not that hard to avoid viruses

All I know is, we've bought both pc's and macs, with specific requested features for graphics. I don't know the specs, my husbands' techie friends advise and help.
He has to use a custom-designed graphics program that's real hard on comps. there's no mac version, thus Parallels.
The pc's all start out fast & great. then need techie interventions more & more often, until NEW computers.
As for the mention of "5 yr old" macs freezing, I don't know. but there are no signs of problems yet, as with comparably used pc's.
When husband upgrades, he hands-down old comps to teen grandkids.
They don't moan about anything. LOL.
