What is your feeding routine like and is the Flowerhorn the only inhabitant in the aquarium.

I haven't fed him till today. And it was only the sinking carnivore pellets. No I have a split 55 gallon tank he is in. Other side has some African cichlids. Yes I know he needs at least the 55 gallons but I have given it to him before and he does nothing with it. He would always stay in his little corner and never swim around. Especially when the light was on. He hated the lights.
 
Dose more than usual with the prme this will help neutralize the ammonia and nitrite for now .

I really don't think it is the filter if you just have the Flowerhorn in the aquarium possibly the medication killed some of the bio bacteria.
 
Btw I am not personally found of using products like de-nitrate imo it just makes things worse. Weekly wc's are the best solution.

I did the water change already but I did a 25% because I didn't get your message till after. I just left my lfs. I picked up a internal uv filter, aquarium salt, and ick killer. My lfs guy told me to get rid of all the gravel for now. Put it in the sun to kill any parasites and then add the uv filter to help kill the parasites. Use half the dosage of the ick and treat with a little bit of the aquarium salt
