So Cal
Alright guys... Im a horrible insomniac.. I couldn't fall asleep for money, pills barely work and I don't want to get dependent on them, but I hate the idea of sleeping anyways... I totally crash at least once a week for a long time though. SO my question is what would you do ? I go to bed around 2-5am every morning, sometimes even earlier (Earlier as in, 6-7am) and wake up around 9am, sometimes I can't even sleep, sometimes I cant even sleep for days...

Usually when im on here, or my other forums its because I cant sleep.

I belong to 5 forums, full time. Some of them I post on more then others, some I just read, I probably have around 10,000 posts total, which isn't that much except I spend a lot more time learning about <Insert hobby here> then talking about it.

Currently im now researching an old hobby, I used to keep Tarantula when I was younger, and now Im looking to start that back up.

I have birds
I breed birds
Tarantulas
Scorpions
Fish FW, SW and Reef.
Millipedes
Centipedes (large, aggressive, poisonous)
Basses
Guitars
Tons of computer games and Console games
Plants
Bonsai
gas powered RC cars
Books (TONS of books, on EVERYTHING)
Geode collection / other rare rocks and elements
Tons of CD's
Tons of fishing equipment
Movies / TV shows on DVD
Practice Singing / guitar / bass / drums / keyboard

I mean... I have so much crap, SO much crap... and through my years of not being able to sleep, i've gotten deep into almost every single hobby I could think of.

Hell... Crickets are 15 for $1... I used to spend $16 a week feeding animals that ate 4 crickets each, every 2 weeks (Alternating food schedule)

What the hell can I do now ? What would you do ?

I've had enough of this.

YARD SALE!! And start over :D

I have insomnia too, it sucks hey. I don't take pills nor have i seen any medical professionals, too lazy, haven't told any body in person and i don't want any one to worry about me, it's not severe though, I get prolly get 18 hours of sleep a week. I just lay in bed playing my bass, trying to teach myself pop and slap bass, and singing, listening to music. I often watch my fish, but i hate getting up and turning on the lights then getting into bed and when i'm finished having to get our of bed and turn off the light.

About the centipeads, feed them to the scorp, it's really fun to watch them battle to the death.

Nah, i wouldn't do that. The only time a Centipede will lose to a scorp is when the scorp is much larger / older. Because Centipedes get 12"+

I've played bass a long time... You might like this, its me recording sound samples, one of them has a mistake I think, its not a song just a repeated pattern for my bass friends interested in buying the bass that I had.

I don't remember which one is better... I think the first track.

Very nice, that sounded great, fast too. I can play faster, But it doesn't sound very good, I practice speed on scales, Then I just try and make up random stuff, I like to mix and match the scales, and add 'stepping stones' between each movement, it can get really fast, but it sounds like $hit, and I'm not focusing when i play, it's always at 3 o'clock or something.

Have you seen a doctor for this? I love hobbies. I have been through a ton. I started with sports cards when I was young.

Here's my list:

Fishing
Sports cards
Watching sports
Coin collecting
Stamp Collecting
Fish- started at 10 yrs old
Comics
Music- I have over 700 CD's, plus digital stuff I bought on Itunes
Movies- They can't put them out fast enough. Worst waste of my time ever: Open Water. A movie about people who got left behind by a diving boat. Two people floating in the water for 1.5 hours. I want my life minutes back!
Books- I love to read Tom Clancy, Grisham, and John Sandford. Also, I love fish books, I have a large collection.
Guitar- I still have a couple Fender Stratocasters, but haven't played in a while. My landlord would be pissed. LOL

I don't actively collect comics or stamps anymore, but I will keep any old coins I find. Won't buy them. I still love movies and music, but music has gone down hill in my opinion. I also don't really collect sports cards anymore, but I still love watching football. I am a bandwagon jumper with the other sports. I still love fishing, it never gets old. I'm an aspiring carp fisherman, and thanks to Stotty I have new techniques to try out! Fish now dominate my spare time. It has become my mainstay, because I love to learn. Fishkeeping has become a great learning experience while I work jobs that aren't very mentally stimulating.

well, thats not really all that fast, its moderate paced. Its basically a pattern I played over a bassline of my own, repeated the pattern several times with little improvisation of it. Basically just showing what my new bass sounded like, that was plugged straight into the Computer via M-Audio box thats the pure sound of That bass, and how I make THAT bass sound.

I've played bass for only about 4 years, and I've got about 14 years training in classical music and jazz on flute.

its fun, lots to learn and lots to accomplish.

Listen to:
Jaco Pastorius
Stanley Clarke
Victor Wooten
Jean Baudin
Yves Cresborn (might have spelled that wrong)
Jimmy Haslip
Gerald Veasley
Marcus Miller

Lots of great players with lots of chops. Most of them show off quite a bit, but a few of them, like Pastorius are seen as players and overlooked as composers. Some others on that list like Marcus Miller are basically chop monsters and are really good, but less talented in the writing section.

Out of all of them, id say my favorite is Jaco. He was one of the Fathers of modern electric bass. A true musical generous and an incredible player to boot.

This might be a stupid question, But could you make like a video of you teaching slap/pop bass. I really want to learn, I don't understand any of the guides on the computers, I don't want to pay 50 dollars for some professional training, Me and my friend split the cost with a ordinary guitar teacher (friend plays norm guitar) and my teacher is great, very skillful and very cool and funny, and he doesn't know hwo to play slap and pop.

The music doesn't really appeal to me, but I like to watch there hands, how they play. What sounds like what.

Hey all, I am a neuroscience icu nurse night shift. My patients, coworkers and I have all suffered from insomnia. What has worked for all of us: Excersize alot. run hard lift. stop taking uppers(coffee, cola, speed), eat at regular times, not too late, develope a more regular shedule. have you guys tried all that?
