Need help... Always bored, severe insomnia.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i used to stay up late and get up early, not insomia but still lack of sleep. my mind wanders still and it takes me a while to fall asleep. if i wake up in the middle of the night, it takes another hour or so to fall asleep. today is my first day off in 2 months, i was going to sleep in but i woke up at 6:30 and couldnt go back to sleep. my lack of sleep used to be bc i was bored and didnt want to go to sleep, now i just dont have time. I work 40hr/wk, full time nursing student and have a 3 month old, so i know what lack of sleep is.

did night shift back in the day - took badly spaced classes and took care of my horses so about 3 hours sleep a day 20 years ago for six months
used to fall asleep while driving and at other very awkward times
something i forced my body to do not something my body was doing to me though
I got a lot done but felt HORRIBLE
do you guys feel crummy or just can't fill the hours?
curious.
because now i HAVE to have eight hours. i don't wake up til i've had that
i have slept through earthquakes tornadoes cats fighting on top of me ...
i took BPI's online meditation class (they have a bpi socal) and zzzzz
frustrating when you want to stay awake
on the comp this week cause out sick and they don't want to deal with me at work tired and cranky ( i smoke so statement of fact not whining).Soon's i lay down at night i'm coughing up a lung so aversion. sleep during the day and catnapping not such a problem

an MD would be thinking bipolar especially if you DON"T feel like crap are intelligent artistic
dunno seems like a fashonable diagnoses and i'm more skeptical of labeling those on the edge of the bell curve
did some research (reading) on mood disorders and sleep they are linked
i think you can screw yourself up to the point you need meds

you're in sunny ca so all the holistic stuff is available to you
try kava kava and valerian no caffiene after 12 noon
no heavy exercise witthin3 hours of needing to sleep blah blah blah it's all in the books

but if you don't feel bad is it a probelm??

Nah, i dont feel bad at all, id rather just sleep to waste time, so to speak.

I really tax my mind with all the research I do... I do at leat 8+ hours of hard research a night, reading up on anything I can... Fish, reefs, bass, singing, Tarantulas etc etc... And even though your mind is more active when you sleep, after i DO get some sleep it feels like my mind had a rest, guess because im using the creative side. It feels like that when I play instruments as well, just not as strong a feeling.

I haven't read the whole thread but I will comment on the issue at hand. I used to get 3 hours of sleep and then shoot on the comp researching like a maniac this was for a month straight and then now I am tired ALL the time and when I sleep i wake up at 1 hour intervals litterally. Say it would be 3:02 am I wake up at 4:02am or around there and go back to sleep and do this over and over again ALL night. Then the next month it will be back to research, research and more research for hours straight. It gets annoying because I also have restless leg syndrome and my legs twitch and spaz at night and it wakes me up so... I get no sleep. Although I have found ways on making me sleep. Warm milk with a cup of apple tea will put me to sleep. Plus when I am sitting in bed at night Music and new pieces of work just pop into my head and I just have to pickup my guitar and play it all night. One time I played from the time I got home from school to 3am two hours before I had to go back to school. My fingertips were raw to the point where there was only a thin layer of skin left as I tore all the calaces off. They took a week and a half to finally heal. Music just keeps me up all the time.

Alright guys... Im a horrible insomniac.. I couldn't fall asleep for money, pills barely work and I don't want to get dependent on them, but I hate the idea of sleeping anyways... I totally crash at least once a week for a long time though. SO my question is what would you do ? I go to bed around 2-5am every morning, sometimes even earlier (Earlier as in, 6-7am) and wake up around 9am, sometimes I can't even sleep, sometimes I cant even sleep for days...

Usually when im on here, or my other forums its because I cant sleep.

I belong to 5 forums, full time. Some of them I post on more then others, some I just read, I probably have around 10,000 posts total, which isn't that much except I spend a lot more time learning about <Insert hobby here> then talking about it.

Currently im now researching an old hobby, I used to keep Tarantula when I was younger, and now Im looking to start that back up.

I have birds
I breed birds
Tarantulas
Scorpions
Fish FW, SW and Reef.
Millipedes
Centipedes (large, aggressive, poisonous)
Basses
Guitars
Tons of computer games and Console games
Plants
Bonsai
gas powered RC cars
Books (TONS of books, on EVERYTHING)
Geode collection / other rare rocks and elements
Tons of CD's
Tons of fishing equipment
Movies / TV shows on DVD
Practice Singing / guitar / bass / drums / keyboard

I mean... I have so much crap, SO much crap... and through my years of not being able to sleep, i've gotten deep into almost every single hobby I could think of.

Hell... Crickets are 15 for $1... I used to spend $16 a week feeding animals that ate 4 crickets each, every 2 weeks (Alternating food schedule)

What the hell can I do now ? What would you do ?

I've had enough of this.

I'm not trying to be a smartass but you may have a bi-polar disorder and maybe seeing your doctor and getting some medication for it might help.

orchids, exercise/martial arts (long ago) clubbing (likewise), horses cross stitch, horses (now i'd need a clydesdale aggghh i almost adopted a draft mare last year lol), philosophy/religeon, fish, poetry (reading and writing)
bazillion interests of course.
this isn't a plug for em but meditation class put me to sleep all the time
it's BPI (berkeley psychic institute)they have a website. can just order tapes and listen at home it's interesting low key and kinda neet
the thing is the way they work with imagery is pretty effective
no one walks around i am the great and powerful muckety muck
not saying whether or not it's real
they probly are the safest group to do meditation with that i've found

transcendental meditation probly shouldn't be your first choice, some folk who did a lot of that are a bit dissociated (they look like they did lots of acid)

Heh... You would be correct, good sir.

On a side note, i used the new punching bag quite a lot... Really got to where it was hard to lift my arms, hard breathing and tons of sweat... Sounds sexy, i know. And it work out well... Until about 1:30 when I woke up, energized and ready to start a new day !!!

:irked:

was getting worried about my temper after i tried to pick a fight with a big dude who beeped his horn as i was pulling out of my driveway
or felt like putting my fist through a tank
so i gotta get back on my schedule no more sitting at the computer smoking and drooling

there's a book out on bipolar goodwin jamison's manic depressive illness written by medical people
pretty encyclopedic explains the connection with sleep etc
also touched by fire is excellent scarey how all the classical authors, artissts could be grouped in that category Yeats byron slake shelley van gogh

was told by a psychiatrist once that his son was diagnosed and just used a common five-leaved illegal substance at night to calm down (not that i would advocate or do such a thing, i just tend to feel that it's illegal more because drug companies would not make money off of it or the drugs they develope and not because it it more harmful than tobacco pr alcohol and that it does have medical benfits what do you think aspirin would cost today if they could stick a patent on it?)
:WHOA: late for work

i have a simalar problem rakie, on average a get 3-4 hours of sleep a night MAX, and that can take a toll on you when your working 2 jobs. i just can't find time to sleep is my problem. i have some intense chest pain right now, and i easiely get sick from a tiny cold because my resistance is worn down, sleep is extremly important, you said you can get up to 7 hours which is plenty in my experience. even if you go to bed a little late.

Yeah, usually I get very little sleep but sometimes I just crash. Last night I fell asleep around 5:30am woke up at 8am
