Need help ASAP! Is this ich or fungus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Two things here MB can destroy BB due to its gram-positive bacteriostatic properties. Malachite is safer in this respect however it is not as safe as MB for scaleless fish. Both are about equal for fungus, MB is better IMO for ich but is better used in a bath dosed at one teaspoon per 5 gallons which is twice the recommended in tank dosage. When using MB dosing accuracy isn't as important because most fish will tolerate high levels without showing any ill effects. MG on the other hand must be dosed accurately and Ph & hardness both have an effect on its usefulness and safety. MG can be buffered with triple sulfa which also aids in the prevention of secondary.

this is off there web page for it.
CAUTIONS
This product should not be used in recirculation systems that utilize biological filtration. Methylene Blue will interfere with the normal biological processes of nitrifying filter bacteria. Methylene Blue can also interfere with normal plant growth.

Like I said I have never had any problems with it effecting my systems. 14 tanks and I don't like to Brag but our death rate vs the amount of stock we have is pretty remarkable. It never made sense to me to dose a quarantine tank. Our breeding pairs stay with the eggs until wigglers and we use it mainly to keep fungus off of eggs.

As far as using it for ich. We use it for the higher oxygen benefits. Raising the temp to 88 - 90 depletes a lot of oxygen in the water

I mean I have never had ich last a week. Nor would I remove a fish with ich. It's already in the tank and the fish is stressed out enough as it is.

MB is excellent at increasing the bloods ability to absorb O2. It is also used for the treatment of Ammonia and Nitrite poisoning. It is in my opinion one of, if not the best first lines meds available to the hobbyist, if used correctly. There is no doubt you have never had and issue using it, however someone with no experience using it could have a problem if not warned of the side effects and what to watch out for.

Almost all the fish in the quarantine is clearing up from ich. Those I haven't mentioned earlier that also infected are the hatchets and rams, now all of them are clear including the pigeon blood. The only infected now are the two leopard skin discus. But the white spots are lessened compared yesterday.
I've step up the dosage of cupramine last night, the solution is 0.5mg/L. I checked the water parameters this morning and everything is ok, the only thing I noticed is the sudden drop of ph, the ammonia, nitrate and nitrite are all 0ppm. Is this normal with cupramine treatment?
Thinking of removing 50% tomorrow put some cuprasorb and carbon and another 50% the next day. I will dose with anything for internal parasites and for bacterial infection. Maybe dose with metro and furan2 and add some aquarium salt.
I will post some pictures later.
