I think getting them out of that nasty, acid water, ASAP, is more important.
spending another half hour or so in the water they came in won't matter much after spending five days in there, especially when that water is slowly being diluted by water from the tank. in their weakend state (if they are still alive), i think the risk of death due to shock by dumping them right into the tank is much greater than the risk of leaving them in their water for a bit longer while they are being properly acclimated.

to set up a drip line, just take some airline tubing and put a drip valve or some type of clip to restrict water flow at one end and stick the other end into your tank, start a syphon and adjust the drip valve or clip so that there is a fast drip going into the bag or bucket that the fish are in. i usually make sure to wait until there is mostly tank water in the bucket, but you should wait til there's at least a 50/50 mix of the water they were packed in and tank water in the bucket, then you can just carefully net them out and hope for the best.

Ok, go with what he says.

Aren't they there yet?

Well they finally got here. 4 are still alive and very active. I put them in the tank to get them used to the temperature. I guess I am going to run out and buy some stuff for a drip system. So I just put the fish in a bucket of some sort (in or out of the bag?) then ciphen water in there slowly until there is a 50/50 mixture?

Ok I have them set up on a drip system. Hopefully in these guys will pull through. I only see a few dead guys so I'm sure these guys are pretty full. I have some baby brine shrimp on stand by. Should I put it in after I get them in there?

You can also just scoop a cup of water out of the tank every 10 minutes & add to the bucket. Do this for an hour & then scoop them out with a net into the tank. I'm glad you've got 4. Better numbers for that size tank anyway & you have the 4 fittest ones now. Get a refund for the other 8.

I'm going to have some words with the post office. It was bad enough they had to go through 5 days of torture but then 6 hours in the back of a hot truck. The box was marked LIVE FISH. The SOB didn't even knock when he got here. I was checking outside evertime I heard a truck go by and there it was.

I also had the water tested at Petsmart and their "fish tech" said it looked good. She checked ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, PH, hardness and something else. I am going to go out tonight I get a testing kit.
