Addiction is an amazing thing.

One scientist once said, "The more we know of addiction, the less we realize we know of it".

Like said previously, it's usually the power of will. If that's what you want to do, then just quit.

i did a course with work and they tested you every week with a Carbon monoxide tester and if you passed you got your gum and patches free but anyone can do this.
first thing first... you have to want to stop for yourself and not for others, this is important as its harder to succeed if you dont realy want too.
you can also set goals and as i did used the money saved for a year to buy some decent fish and set up for them.

for the first month i used the 15mg patches
for the second month i used the 10mg patches
for the third month it was the 5mg patches.
when i finished the 3 months course i had a few 15mg patches and quite a few 10s but most of the 5mgs left.
i also used gum but mainly before going out drinking as this was the time i would smoke quite a bit, having a gum around 10 minutes before i got to the pub give the nicotine hit i needed to stop the cravings.

this worked for me i have been stopped now for 3 years.

stopping smoking so far has bought me a 6'tank,stand and hood and a few new leather sofas for various rooms in my house.

I've heard of people picking up chewing tabacco instead of smoking
ya thats much better
teeth falling out,spitting everywhere,mouth cancer,brown teeth
i used to do that, how did i quit that? cigs

and it sounds like most replies are from someone that never smoked or "i know this person"
not actual quitters.lol
its easy to tell do this or take that but its different when your going through it.
some are so dont start crying. :D
and to the original poster, dont miss the link i showed, lots of good stuff in it. ;)

My reply is not from a non smoker, just letting them know what the drug is and how it has been working to help her. I am a smoker and can admit I am not ready to quit. When I am I think I can go cold turkey. That would probably be the only way I could get through it.

My mom went to this thing. I really don't know what to call it, but it wasn't hypnotherapy or anything along those lines. I'll ask her tomorrow for details, but she quit...cold turkey. Mind you, my mom has been smoking for 35 years. The fact that she could just quit one day and never have another urge is HUGE. The 'treatment' cost something like $150, but any smoker will tell you thats a few weeks of cigs at best.

Sorry, but your method of smoking little cigars is really no better in my mind. And might I add that I was a 3 pack a day smoker for most of my 15 years smoking.

When I quit I quit. Little cigars would have had me back to the sticks. As difficult as it seemed at the time, it still just boils down to not smoking anymore. Everytime someone offers you a smoke you need to say no. When at the gas station just check out. Don't tell yourself that you can smoke just one and be fine. It's simple, not easy.

Chris

There was no medicine, gum, or any other means of quitting that got you started smoking cigarrettes so why would any of those help? All you had that got you into smoking them was yourself and that's all you need to quit. Cold turkey is the only way. Honestly, just bring up a disturbing thought towards cigarrettes whenever you're feeling the urge such as the fact they contain rat poison or any of the other 1000s of chemicals in it. I agree with someone who said they just broke their last cig in the pack in half, that's awesome. It's a symbol to show that you have what it takes to quit and you're not going to finish what you started because that would mean a death that is not on your own terms. good luck
