If it's any consilation it's taken 4 mo. for coraline to appear on my baserock and your really gotta stare at it to see it. If you have brown algae (diatoms) then better lights used longer might help to remove it but generally this will die off when any excess sillicates are eaten provided theres not a constant reintroduction via untreated tapwater ot salt mixes. Green algae is more or less the opposite as it uses light to feed. Increasing water circulation increases oxygen thus decreasing C02 and reducing the lighing time or it's intesity will stave green algae. But once again it's no one single source that fuels - micro and macro algaes or cyanobacteria.

I got a really great amount of coralline algae growth and decreased bad algae growth by using Purple Up and a "Strontium & Other Trace Minerals" supplement. The use of those two supplements plus the regular removal of pieces of algae has dramatically helped to get coralline algae to grow on my live rock, and it's now starting to grow on the glass of the aquarium, too. The only complaint that I have against Purple Up is that I ended up getting a ton of the teal-colored coralline algae rather than the purple-colored stuff, but the purple stuff is starting to grow pretty well now, too, and any coralline algae is better than none at all.

It only took a few weeks to get these results, so you may as well keep dosing with the Purple Up since you have it. The bad algae will get somewhat worse before it gets better (at least it did in my case anyway), but it goes away after a while with a little assistance in the form of manual removal of large clumps of algae on a regular basis.

im using all kent products and am having good sucess so far, the most important things i test for is nitrates, phosphates, calcium, magnesium and kh. without those readings i have no idea what to dose. testing is important. im currently using kent liquid calcium, kent strontium/mylbdium, kent magnesium and kent lugols solution. coraline is spreading, not like crazy but its growing. also the idea for the phosban media is a good one, that stuff works great, i think its made by two little fishies though, they make the phosban reactor for the media. and i think the strontium really helps with the algae growth to like wiggles said.
