An update of what happened by now,

temp was set to 86 degrees last night,

this morning the rtc that was inactive was found dead. I could see some redness insite its mouth at the point that it supposed to be its teeth, i dont know if this was normal. Other than that the body was colored normal and you could see that it was infested by white spots all over.

The other one is now become very active swiiming around the tank all the time and at some times it vigorously tries to scratch its side by slidung on the tank glass. You can also see that he is infested by white spots but he seems to ba acting ok.

i did not feed him this morning. I immitatelly performed a water check and go the following results:

temp. 86
ammonia. 0
nitrites. 0
nintrates. 25 mg/litre

i immitatelly performed a 20% water change with treated water.

thing is that is a national holiday today in my country and i cant get any meds,
I can only get table salt but as you said i must not use it on a catfish.

please advice what should i do as i dont want to loose this one aswell.

im also trying to post some pics

thanks for your help

It might have been to far gone.

Keep up what you are doing

Hi man thanks

Since there are some days since i set the temp to 29 celcius and now is 30 and the rtc hasnt cleared up. Do you think is should be necessary to perfom a salt treatment. I believe i read somewere in the forum that someone had success with his rtc at a lower dose

Thing is i can only get access to table salt today.

Please advice man i dont want to loose this one as well.

Table salt has iodine....no chanve in buying aquarium salt at least in an lfs?

But isn't the rtc behaving normally, although with the white spots?

If it makes you feel easier, meaning you tried everyting, add in the salt at hald dosage, or better yet, give it a very quick dip in salt water.

I would say imn, count to 60, and out. The moment it turns sideways or upside out you have to take it out immediately.

Use your yank water, in a conatiner, put in the salt at 1 tablesponn per 5 gallons, and ni it goes.

You do ita at your own risk, of course.

That is how we all learn, through attempts yhat may result or not.

The only difference from yesterday is that today he seems to be breathing just a bit heavier, i dont know if he lost its appetite because i didnt try to feed him today.

what should be the case that is to be considered absolutely necessary to get to the salt bath?

All shops are closed today, i will take your advice though and wait until tomorrow to get aquarium salt.

my question now is:

If situation stays as it is tomorrow,

do i get salt and follow this route or get an ick medicine??

considering that he is fully covered with white spots for 3 days now....

im much confident now that i know that an experienced person is advising me

thanks man

Man, do not put such a high responsibility on me!

He is breathing heavier because you upped the temps. That is why i told you to aerate the water strongly.
The higher tmsp should do it.

If you do not feel comfortable, meaning you feel you are not doing all it takes, you can go to meds ( ick cure ? a blue liquid ) you buy in the LFS or you give it a quick dip in salt water, prepared with your tank water in a separate container.

The signs to watch in the dip are extreme stress by the fish such as turning upside down or on its side. In any case, do not overdo it. Count to sixty and put it back on the tank.

Then let us know...

I would stay with the elavated temp between 30-33 degrees for a few days. Higher temps acelerate the ick life cycle and the fish will appear worse befor it gets better. The parasite will not be able to survive and reproduce at these tamps so will quickly die off. Keep the water airated and the temp up for about 5 days.

If you must use salt use Aquarium salt dose at a half dose 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons of water. GL

That is, Tom, exactly my opinion. But the OP is scared ( I can relate to that; we've all been there ) that he is not doing enough.....
