Need help RTC's ick??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I took the air pump out of the pond today and put an airstone in the rtc's tank thus now its aerated heavily. It seems to be breathing better now but still no difference in white spots, still covered. But still active swimming trying to scratch itself and at times it just hovers above the airstone inside the bubbles.
its now 24 hours since i elevated the temp from 29 to 30.5 celcius.

i decided to just calm down and wait, if you guys say this is enough for now, then thats what i'll do.

water change every morning with sucking clean the bottom of the tank.

I just hope the 3'm rtc can cope this high temperature for the days required

thanks guys

He will be fine as long as you give him oxygen. It will take 2 or 3 days before you notice white spots falling off,

2 questions:

Whats with the op???

Im i supposed not to feed at all during this period?

As i said, i check water parameters twice daily so everything is spot on.

OP is original poster (you). I think that you could feed him lightly once per day especially if you keep changing water anyway.

I just thought to keep you guys updated,

I woke up this morning and the rtc is still covered with white spots, but it ate about 1/3 of a bloodworm cube, with ferocious appetite i might say. (i didn't throw in any more because i want to keep the water as clear as possible)

he is moderate active, at times swimming around, sitting behind the filter or hovering in the bubbles above the air-stone.

I did a 20% water change sucking the bottom of the tank when removing the water.

water conditions are spot on

I will go and get some aquarium salt today, but i wont use it since it seems to be doing well with just the temperature treatment, maybe some ich med as well just in case it comes needed urgently.

Overall i feel confident that it should start showing signs of improvement soon.

Thanks again

Thanks for the update, stay the course. Please report back on how the fish is doing or if there is any change or concern.

as Tom said.

Glad things seem to be improoving

Ok,

latest uptade.
just came home from work.

the rtc is mostly laying inside a pvc pipe breathing a bit more heavy,

i throw in just a bit of bloodworms and it seems it still has its appetite.

when is swimming arount the tank it makes some frantic jumps in the water as if something is disturbing it.

but overall it seems to at the same condition as yesterday. Still no signs of white spots going away,

48 hours after setting the temp at 30 and still no signs of ick going away.

just in case of emergency i got some aquarium salt today and a cure for ick for waterlife called protozin (a blue liquid that turns water blue as i was told at the lfs)

now my question:

do i keep doing the temp treatment alone?
do i add salt in the tank?
do i give the fish a salt bath?
or do i do the protozin treatment and if so do i do full or half dose? And if so should it be done at this or a lower temp?

im only asking for your opinion as you have more experience with this kind of fishes.

I would add a bit of salt at this point to help relieve some of the stress. I would add 2 tables spoons only.
