im terrified of iguanas :|
went to the pet store today and picked up a light fixture, a UVB bulb, and some substrate. The guy at the petstore told me to come back for the UVA because he wasnt sure how it worked, he told me that the lizard can recieve it thru a regular heat lamp, is this true ?

Not true, regular heat lamps produce heat and not uv rays, thats why you will need a uvb bulb to produce the uv rays.

this may be a lil bigger than what you're thinking, i dunno what classifies a monitor as "big", but how about an iguana? easy to find, easy to feed.

Or if you're willing to invest, a giant leopard gecko or two would work. they get up to 200 grams in weight, but im not sure about actual body size.

Well iguanas get up to 5 - 6 feet same as lets ssay a savanah monitor, people just dont relize that and always house iggys in some 40 gallons sucks, i wouldnt recomend a iggy unless you have a big enclosure to house him properly.

i have a bulb that says "sun glow" and it produces up to 80 Degrees F, if it sais sunglow does that mean it gives off anything else besides heat?

XD yeah that's true. well, i babysat an iguana for a week. feeding was actually really easy, and she was a sweetheart. she cuddled and everything XD

yeah they are easy for a week. but as far as commitment goes. i spend more time caring for my iguana than i do my dog. hes a great pet but they deff arent for everyone.

They put out UVA rays, but not UVB

A week;) Try for a year and we will see:popcorn:Igs have great mood changes specialy males and its something we just have to live with to have them. You need to read their body languaje and if you cant you can lose a finger or two:grinno: But if you are able to dedicate yourself to them and have the experience I cannot recomend them more heartly, one of the most amazing, rewarding and fascinating pets you can get your hands on:D They worth much more then the 30$ or so they are sold for

Regular heat lamps do produce uva, IMO heat lamps are worthless, you can get a flood light for way cheaper, does the same thing.
:D So true
