First problem too many fish in a small tank unless they are fry! 40gal will still be way too small you need a 120gal at least!

x2, you need to upgrade.

For how long have you had this tank set up?

Could be bacterial bloom, this is normal, and you shouldn't worry about it, it will go away when your tank is fully cycled.

Doing huge water changes and cleaning your filter during the bloom, only makes it take longer.

I would keep doing 20-30% WC every 3 days.

ive had it for about a month because my other tanked was leaking and sold it. but chally are u buying me a 120g? my friend has 150g with 11 fish and a filter thats for 110g and his water is crystal clear

Cristal clear is not the same as ammonia/nitrate free,

Your friend might be bound to some problems, or maybe he does WC every day.

It also depends on the type of fish.

word of advice: don't trust what the filter says in the box, i.e. it says its for 50gal, that means that in ideal conditions, with an ideal amount of fish it may work. you should pick filters based on the GPH.

my filter now is 200gph but i was thinking about either getting a 325gph filter with an underground filter but i plan on using sand for my new tank so im not too sure what i want to do yet but im in no rush to do it but thanks for the advice

its a 29 but im getting a 40 breeder soon and plan on using sand but the waters white cloudy and im doing a 75% water change right now. Idk if this could be the problem but the water pipes were recently replaced in my neighborhood so i was thinking that might be a problem not sure but thanks for everyones idea and plus my one oscar doesnt poop that much the other one i want to get ride of ($10 if anyone wants him lol)

OVERSTOCKED!!!!!!!!!!! :eek::jaw:

Seems like a lot of fish for a 29. I agree that plecos are pooping machines, try a larger tank with ONE pleco, up the size of filtration unit, and cut down on their feeding. Be careful not to over water change as that can make it's own problems. Good luck

by underground filter you mean an undergravel? If so, stay away from those.

If you have a 40 gal, you should be fine for a couple more months.

I had 2 RBP's, 1 Oscar and 1 Pleco in 30 gal, for 3 months. They got way to big for it.

first thing you'll notice is that no matter how many water changes you do, your water will smell, then they will stop eating. those are the sings its time to move.

Also, once your GT gets bigger it will kill everything in the tank
