by underground filter you mean an undergravel? If so, stay away from those.

If you have a 40 gal, you should be fine for a couple more months.

I had 2 RBP's, 1 Oscar and 1 Pleco in 30 gal, for 3 months. They got way to big for it.

first thing you'll notice is that no matter how many water changes you do, your water will smell, then they will stop eating. those are the sings its time to move.

Also, once your GT gets bigger it will kill everything in the tank

yeah i plan on getting my 40g soon but im gonna end up putting the ffish that are too big for my tank into my friends 150g or his 55g

You might not want to hear it but, 40 still too small. Even for a single Oscar, maybe 1 large ciclid will be pushing it a little.

Just hope you can find them a home, and not just the toilet bowl.

yeah i know its still small but i dont have the room for a tank thats over 36inches and im thinking about just getting rid of my oscars and keeping my gt n jack dempsey because theyre not big and probably gonna replace the oscars with a butterkoferi (i know their growth rate is fast but theyre my favorite fish, my last one died :().

u buying me a new tank STXman? otherwise these fish r staying in the tank or going down the toilet (or at least my one oscar)

so if no one buys you a tank you insist on abusing/flushing your fish .
welcome to mfk ! :banhim:

you're only trying to hear what you want to hear . you're insanely overstocked
and do you understand what cycling a tank means ?
look it up . and change more water

ive been busy with school im only a junior in high school so calm down and if you dont like it then dont comment on my posts

I assume you're telling me to calm down? I'm as calm as they get. My fish have tanks the size they require, my nitrites and ammonia are at 0 and my nitrates are <10. I've never had a problem with "cloudy water" in my 15+ years at doing this. So I'm very calm :D:D

I'm just pointing out the obvious, and by reading the rest of your thread, it's obvious you shouldn't be keeping fish. 2 oscars and a JD in a 29 gal??? Really??? If you don't have the space or the knowledge, don't keep the fish.:screwy:

It isn't anyone else's responsibility to buy you a new tank. :irked: And it isn't your fish's fault you bought them without knowing what you were getting yourself into. Return all those fish to the fish store, because they will all get to big for your tank. Flushing them down the toilet is inhumane.

In a 29 you can have a small group of africans. Mbuna would be your first choice, but you could also have some Tropheus. Sajica cichlids also only reach 6". Use the search function and look up "Mini-Monster" and you'll find a thread with all sorts of species that stay small.

However, don't just dive into it uninformed like you did with all the fish you currently have. Read the threads about the cycling method, read the care requirements for whatever fish you do decide to get, and DO NOT get fish that will get to big, or too many fish, because then you'll just start the cycle all over again. Do it right the second time.

Ok, if you post things like that you're gonna get flamed a lot, Im just giving you friendly advice so you dont have to learn the hard way.

all of the fish you mention get large fast (over 12 in, six months), also they're all very aggressive, probably they are ok by now, but they will get big soon (2 months).

When that happen they will compete for food and space, so even if you manage to keep their water clean, the most likely outcome is that you'll end up with 1 fish that killed all the other ones (my money is on the GT).

So my advice for you is, if 40 gal is the larger you can get, and you're set on having those particular fish, you should pick 1 cyclid and maybe a pleco, and give the rest to your friend.

At least until you're able to get a larger tank.
