You could still do the Amazon fish but make sure that feeders are treated prior to feeding them to the leaf fish.

That still requires an extra tank and weekly cost that really adds up over time I'm sure. Is there anything that could fit in this tank that isn't that much of an investment?

Not sure I've ever been called bud before...
I suppose I am...and sadly it limits me to only having tanks in my own room and having to go through all sorts of parental channels before I can do anything...it's a 29 gallon.
Somewhat cool looking, maybe active. I was considering the leaf fish so go off of that. Maybe african butterflyfish?

Someone else giving advice mentioned mollies as feeders not guppies. If and when I step up to trying something like this, it makes a ton of sense...larger fry at birth, edible size faster, hardier.
