Need info on amazon leaf fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’m not quite sure, as far as I know there’s 3 different fish that are commonly called leaf fish. The one I linked to is the most commonly found. The one you talked about is the 2nd most common.

In my experience I would say yes.

Yes, size wise it would be best to only have one as I’ve found them to be even worst than the butterfly fish when it comes to aggression amongst themselves when young and you’ll only find them at about 1.5”.
Me and dr exum dr exum have both have awful experiences trying to keep a group of them. I started with about 12 and am down to 3.

i have two left (75g/120g) they killed the other...

especially you are talking 29g?

i believe they get 5”?

GL!

5” is normal. I saw one that was 8” once in person.
I’m planning to get 10 or so, maybe a dozen, and try again sometime in the future.

Thanks a bunch! I'll do some research as well and see if there is anything fitting to what I'm looking for.

And based on the new replies I think I'll stay away from the leopard bush fish. I'll look into the gudgeon

I think they mean a single one of their own species. A lot of fish are more aggressive to fish of their own kind then to other species. So you could probably do a butterfly fish, the bush fish and a bottom dweller and that would be a pretty cool tank imo
Did not see this until just now, I agree this would be very cool, although the other guy did say the bush fish may be too big for a 29 and suggested the gudgeon.

Although the purple gudgeon and bush fish don't seem to be too different in size

Bush fish definitely have the potential to get longer, plus they are also much "bigger" than a gudgeon.

Not sure I've ever been called bud before...

I suppose I am...and sadly it limits me to only having tanks in my own room and having to go through all sorts of parental channels before I can do anything...it's a 29 gallon.
That doesn’t change as you get older, it’s just your spouse instead of parents that you have to go through

This is very true. In my personal experience it took either 3 or 5 years for a 1.5” specimen to go to 5” however given I’ve seen an 8” in person before they definitely have the ability to get bigger in time.

Given their lack of activity in general and slow growth rate I figured that they’d be a decent fish for a 29 if an upgrade was possible in the future which I hadn’t gotten around to talking about before our op axed the idea of them.

If it isn’t a spouse then it’s the government :nilly:

True...I see so many threads on these forums or posts starting with 'so my wife finally let me get...'

No axing occurred they're still on the table. But an upgrade is incredibly unlikely as I doubt I'll ever really be able to get into this stuff until I graduate, go to and get out of college etc. Not sure how many fish my parents would want left behind when I leave and how hard/easy it'd be to move them.

And there's quite a lot of fish banned in my state...
