As for the Black rocks, Home depot is your best bet, just be sure to rinse them really good or you'll turn all the water Black and cloudy. Trust me I know!! as for the Catus, try looking in the crat section of a Walmart or any good craft store which sells artif. plant arranging materials. they'll have them or they can order them for you. My wife purchased some for our kitchen just a few months ago.

I looked it up in a geoscience data base, more likely to include calcium than acids but often contains significant amounts of iron ore so I guess it is a bad choice, shale on the other hand often contains sulfur products and tends to be acidic so is another bad choice.
