Need puffer experts to help my mbu

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Indeed. I lto like the idea of injecting prey iteam and using garlic gaurd to stimulate appetiete. However i really did not see harm in giving up ur water params. I mean tht is where ya start when trouble shooting an issue in a fish tank. Params include temp as well as chemistry. Just saying. However I am glad ur Mbu is back in good order.

Maybe you could isolate ur puffer for awhile a long while. Raise temp add ur garlic guard or a stronger product stuff soak or inject shrimp with anti-parasitic and do plenty of water changes for when puffer passes them. Then treat ur sting rays while puffer is removed. Inject their worms shrimp or what ever they really enjoy then treat again. Then one more time for good measure. I use garlic guard and minced garlic on my tank routinely just for good measure. Trick i pick up while keeping salt water angels. It may take a little bit to get over the garlic smell in tank if you run ur temps on the warmer side. I just find meds to be hard on the fish and their guts. Remember those anti-parisitics can upset balance in their gut so give time to recover and allow for the animals body to repair its self after treatment. Best wishes tht is just my 3cents.

Truth is when we feed live. Dnt know if you feed ur puffer or rays live. But we run the risk of worms. So this may be an issue you will continue to encounter. However if you can minimize stress and get worms to a tolerable level you fish may return to normal active self. I would just treat seaperate maybe remove Mbu from rays for good. African bugs are not the same as Soth American bugs and mbu may not have a defense for their bugs and vice versa. No expert but just my thinkin. I hope ya get em knock out for gud or at east dwn where fish will be cool!!!!

Update on this is the puffer is sick...again
It's probably going to take awhile to get everything under control. It sounds like this problem has been going on for years. If that is the case, it's going to take some real effort to get straightened out. I wonder if there could potentially be some long term damage from the stress of having the IP's so long? What is the temp in your tank now? Warm water sure can help a lot of things. Did you medicate everyone long enough? Did you use garlic as a stimulant and natural antibiotic? Those are all the things I would do. I'd make sure the water was warm and clean, too.
It's so hard to guess what it could be. I hope it all works out. I hate to hear that your puffer is still sick.

Hey. I lost my 18 inch Mbu a month ago to an unknown disease as well. I'll post some pics. Maybe someone can help for the future.
I agree that the temp probably initiated this problem. I ended up holding my guy in one hand and feeding him shrimp by hand towards the end.
The pictures go in order of progression. After the last he was swimming around and bumping into glass one day bc he couldn't see and his eye looked like it exploded. What looked like white puss came oozing out of the center of his eye filling up the area between lens and retina.
If I can think of anything for you I'll let you know. Good luck.

Sorry to hear it's reoccured.. if you haven't yet you may want to look into Metro... it's a more aggressive and more touchy treatment for IPs but i've heard it is "the best" way to get rid of IPs. If i was haveing this issue I would be sending ZooDiver a PM and politely asking his advise on safely useing it, or possibly some of teh guys in the ray subforum that routinely use it.

i feed my mbu puffers garlic cloves and get a garlic presser and put it in a zip lock with a few prawns help with immune system and fight parasites
