Going to be getting a shoal of rbps in soon. I'm thinking 6-8 all at 2". I've got a few tanks that I could grow them out in - gota couple of feeder tanks at 50gal, 20gal and 100gal. Also got a 200gal that i was thinking they could grow into, would that be an appropriate size for a shoal this big with adult rbps? also what filtration am i looking at?

Ultimately go with the 200 gallon. If it were I setting it up....

I'd set up a 30 gallon or larger wet/dry with 1800 gph pump, a nice wavemaker pushing out around 600 gph, two 300 watt heaters and a lot of plants.

^ THAt WOULD BE A GREAT SETUP FOR SURE

hmm im wondering what its like feeding baby rbps? if they are like micro sh and really skittish with their food then i really want to get them into something smaller and fatten them up then put them in my 200gal. because i know they'll disappear in my 200gal. so am i looking for a 30gal to grow this shoal out?

As babies [dime size] I fed mine primarily market shrimp. I also fed beefheart a few times a week, flakes, crab, krill and anything else I could coax them into eating.

NOTHING makes baby Piranha grow faster than beef heart but it should be fed sparingly. Krill also encourages growth.

I fed mine every couple hours so long as they ate.

better choice would be starting with the 55, progressing to the 100 gallon when they reached about 4'' and then move to the 200.

I have 6 in a 220 and IMO that's about perfect.

sounds good. what sort of filtration am i looking for here? and temperature wise?

I set my 220 up with a 30 gallon sump, 2200 gph pump and a couple 800 gph powerheads.

In a 55 I'd run something that put out 350 gph or better filter-wise [a Magnum 350 would work nice] and a strong powerhead. In the 100 I'd do twice that.

I keep my temp. in my Red tanks at 82-84 degrees to encourage fast growth.

guys how many adult rbps can i fit into a 200gallon with heavy duty filtration? because i have micro sh i already have heavy filtration and a few canisters im not using.

I'm curious to see the answers here. I get the feeling most will say 10-12 but every vid i've seen of a 200-240 gallon tank is housing way more adults then that.
