need some help id

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
....... and what do they look like now?

Stick around for more than a minute, and you'll find out that I am typically quite helpful here on MFK. You'll also find out that I know a thing or two about the amphilophus genus, and even flowerhorns.

Speaking of being helpful .........

And that's you being helpful?

FYI - not all FH have red eyes, nor do all FH have red in their body color. In other words your reasoning behind why it is not a FH, proves absolutely nothing. As an example, the following fish is a Kamfa flowerhorn.

Petsmart sources their fish from Segrest Farms, which source many of their fish from farms in Asia, many of those being hybrids.

As previously stated, one cannot simply eye ball a relatively piss poor jpeg image of someones fish, and give a 100% accurate ID, especially when that fish originated from a commercial farm that is not only known for mislabeling their fish, but also for selling numerous forms of cichlid hybrids.

No need to get your panties all bunched up because based on this single image a few of us don't feel that this is a chancho.

That fish has red all over it, yes I was being helpful, unlike you that just thinks just cuz you say something you think your right, iv found several pics of the chancho that look more like the op pic then anything you have shown, so still waiting for you to prove me wrong,

The fish in question is probably a flowerhorn due if not for the reason that Petsmart sell them tankwise next to the red texas. I almost purchased one but didn't really want one for that reason. Probably jumped or some other way got into the other tank!

The vast majority of "red texas" that Petsmart has sold over the past year have turned out to be kamfa flowerhorn, even those in the correct tank. Between their supplier (Segrest Farms) and Petsmart employees, neither seems to be able to tell the difference between a juvenile red texas, and a juvenile kamfa flowerhorn. Numerous threads on this topic in the hybrid section.

Those are just quick google pics, but should be a good example that you can't just visually ID a young Amphilophus. And that's not even taking into account hybrids...
