need some help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That could easily be the case, Both lead and copper spikes are preety common when old piping is disturbed. Even iron can cause fatal overdoses in strong enough concentrations.

WOAH!! My wife just thought of something. They just built a Wallgreens on my street. I got to thinking about it, and lately the water in both tanks goes cloudy for a couple days after water changes. If they had to mess with the city water pipes for the new construction, could there be copper in my tap water from new pipes?

oh boy especially if you saw the tanks get cloudy.. the only way i guess would be to test the water.. but yes that definily seems like a possibility.. odd ball would be the one to tell you for certain what high copper would do to fish.. maybe send him a pm..

now that i thought about it.. they do not use copper in the ground..too expensive.. too heavy etc.. they would only use copper externally.. they were probably useing PBC pipe or poly pipe.. but i quess it is possible to have something else contaminate the water..  Have you been treating your tank ..with city water you have chlorine etc.. i did not realize you had city water

Yes, I have been adding a dechlorinater all along. I sent out a water sample today. Results should be in tomorrow. We are testing for copper, zinc, lead, iron, maganese, chloride, and sodium. Can you think of anything else to test for? If there is anything, I will be buying am R.O. system.

The results for the bacterial and fungal cultures (that I talked about earlier in this thread) should be in tomorrow, too. They said that they isolated 4 bacterias on one of the cultures. They should tell me exactly what tomorrow. One culture result came back already. It had enterobacter cloacae. They said that this was probably a secondary infection, though. The Dr. at my wife's work says that it is similar to E. Coli.

Oh yeah...Do you remember the thread on Rally's black aro? The way it was acting right before it died? Well, a lot of these fish were doing the same thing as he described. If there is anything in the water, I'll have to get in touch with him, too. If I remember correctly, he never found out what happened there, either. Could be a possibility...

glad you will get to the bottom of this and know what was wrong.. great that you are getting some expertise on the water quality.. looking forward to info too.. best of luck getting some answers so it will never happen again to you.

I hope to. With a problem this big, I couldn't just shrug my shoulders and turn away. I HAVE to find out what is causing this. I won't quit until I have an answer. Thats just how I am.

Didn't get any test results yet. I moved the remaining fish to a 10 gallon and bought R.O. water from the LFS. While I was there, I bought a filter pad that removes heavy metals. Happy to say that for the first time in a long time, I went a day without any deaths. :headbang2 I hope to get some test results soon. If I need an R.O. system, I want to order it asap. My other tank needs a water change, and I don't have any usable water.:WHOA:
