Need some ideas how to plumb 500gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just can't believe we're gonna resurrect a years old debate about whether there's should be a trickle of water in an E-Drain or not. The whole debate is best left in the archives of reef central guys.

My intent was not to debate what approach is better...relax. I'm aware of all the archives in reefcentral. My point was based in how even Herbie method evolved, a trickle is expected and how it's used to self correct. BA technically uses dorso with the air hole/tubes and not based on just having (3) standpipes.

OP, regardless of what method you end up with, make sure your teeth doesn't become the bottleneck, so you want to do some test runs.

Is there any way to tell how many gph a overflow can handle?

There's a chart on some threads that post gph per pvc diameter, but I don't know of something that calculates how much your custom overflow box can take on. Id be interested in knowing as well.

I have a hangon the back overflow box on my 240gal that measures 4"x8" I believe. It's rated for 1200 gph. The custom one I have now is 14x8. I would be curious.
