Need stocking suggestions

Tank size is too small for one anyways. Depending on your skill level a more "hard to keep" pair of shrimp might be cool. A smaller watchman goby and a shrimp combo would be neat also.

that sounds like a neat idea... the shrimp/goby combo that is. i dont have enough time for any "hard to keep" shrimp, unless youve got ideas.... the only difficult species i can think of are harlequins, which cost too much to feed, and blood/fire cleaner shrimp which are waaay too pricey for me ATM.

maybe ill go with a goby... im really hesitant because im not gonna get a skimmer for this tank and i only top if off... no WCs. if anything, maybe an itty bitty watchman goby and ill get more sand for the tank so the sand beds really deep... i dunno.

you dont do weekly water changes?

If you seriously want to do the no WC thing heres what I recommend.

DONT get a fish. Then do an AC fuge mod to filter it. If you can fit one I would do an AC110 mod because that gives you the most space to grow macros...GL

Maybe a TINY fish...but I just dont think you can in that size tank.

This is a low maintenance tank that i set up when my neighbor gave me some hermit crabs, that she accidentally brought home from florida. i dont have the time or money (for salt) to do WC on this tank, and besides the liverock filters enough of the crap, the actual in tank filter catches the rest of it. ill be getting a whisper10 filter for it soon i think.

fish are definitely out now.
i think i will definitely get 1 or 2 snails of some sort, along with a couple peppermint shrimp.

Regardless of what life you have in the tank...there will be die-off. You will also be adding food for the animals...and this will rot, and cause them to produce waste.

End result is nitrate.

There are two ways to remove it. Either plants or WC in my mind. With a very lightly stocked tank (hermits) you might be able to just grow a macro in there...then again, the macro would probably out compete the hermits food source.

This is why an AC fuge mod would be a good choice on a tank like this, adding volume, filtration, nitrate removal, and potentially a food source for inhabitants.

If you cant afford salt for a 5.5g aquarium, you should probably not have it. Thats just me being honest. Salt costs about $0.27 a gallon...

i was going to say the same thing.

not to be rude but would you get a dog you couldnt afford food for? IMHO its equal to the same thing

considering that im unemployed, 15, and dont get an allowance...

also ive seen many people who dont do WC on FOWLR tanks or those similar to mine because the liverock absorbs so much nutrients.

if it helps, ive decided to upgrade to a 10gal in a couple months.
