the parents said i can get a fish tank for Christmas. the only rules are it can be any size thats reasonable(for them, 300G or under), must have at least one dimension that is 24" or under so i can fit it through my door, cannot be a DIY tank(there're unreliable and my dad hates the way they look) and lastly the setup must be under $1000. i'm willing to go $200 over but that is it. ideally, i'm looking for something around the 6' x 3' x 2' which would be the best option for me but willing to go smaller. this also needs to include, lighting, heating and filtration. I'm looking for ideas on how this can be done. i will be looking through craigslist constantly.

Can we trade parents? Lol, jk...Kno u want to get the largest tank possible, but remember the larger volume u go, the more the equipment cost is. For a budget around $1k, mite b able to set up a 125g (6ft x 18"x 18" I think). Tank will b cheapest part. Filtration, heaters, lights, top, stand, substrate, etc will b where it'll get costly. If u can find a good deal on a tank/ and or stand on craigslist, b a plus. What kind of fish u hoping to keep?

I got a used 5' 120 gal with lights and stand for $200...found on craigslist. For under $1000 you should be able to find something decent. Do you have filters and such already?

A 125 is to small to be an option. It needs to be 5' or longer or 2' or wider.
