what did they sell you??

I went through something like that ...
was advised that my fresh water eels were brackish ... the day I got the water up to brackish (I made it brackish over almost a weeks time to keep them from being shocked) - the one almost DIED on me ...

also - similar with some puffers that people said were BRACKISH (after I bought them as fresh water)

... well - guess what ... they WERE fresh water green spotted puffers!

ahh ... careful ... there is an actual FRESH WATER Green Spotted Puffer (Tetraodon schoutedeni) and it looks a little different from the brackish one ...

my aquatic guru set me straight last week ...

he has got what he has called a green spotted puffer which is TOTALLY different markings to what I have and he told me these that I have are actual fresh water ...

Besides that ... in a matter of hours I lost 2 puffers in brackish water right after the SG was elevated to 1.025 - the rest were acting sickly laying on the bottom on the tank ...

my biggest puffers are over 2 inch long right now

I didn't know the fish was sick, i thought it was pale because it was a female. you act like you've never impulse bought anything. for your information I did research them. there are two types of these fish, one is ok in fresh, one is not. They had one that was BRACKISH, labeled as FRESH. thats not my ****ing fault. you think you're all perfect. get over yourselves.

there are different types of so called fresh water eels.

Mine looked like they were passing out

the one was on the bottom (which is normal) and about 1/3 of his body was pointing towards the surface and in a moment he fell backwards with his belly exposed.

The other one loss the use of one of the gills for a while.

During that same time I also lost my favorite puffer too. He died and the only thing wrong was the salt level was finally brackish.

Even the guppy's were fine in the brackish.

From what I have learned on line - many types of eels go into fresh water to spawn. However; the info on these guys is minimal at best.

I even contacted a Marine Biology University in (I think) Singapore hoping to get some information on them and no one there knew anything about them.

From what I can tell - no one has done a captive breeding of these guys either!

Those eels will need to go brackish to full salt. Remember to go slow, but eventually they will need it. You might want to go to the salt water section for more info on the morays.

Do your own research before you purchase any fish. Don't trust anythinhg a random LFS person tells you.

Most fish stores define fish by freshwater or saltwater. SO technically brackish is freshwater because it is not saltwater - ie not from the ocean. I agree don't buy fish you don't know about unless you are prepared to do the necessary actions after you look it up. Chill hopes4peace - alot of people new to the hobby do this. BUT if a fish looks remotely sick or odd DON"T buy it.

ya, there's a LFS near me that sells freshwater eels as totally freshwater as well as other dumb things like selling baby red tail cats to kids with 10 gal tanks. no kidding. if you're a newbie to the hobby you'll believe what a guy who says he's been into fish for 25 years will tell you. fortunately we have the Internet today so that googling a fish before you buy is easy. but my sympathy to 'hope4peace' cuz i've been there done that with the impulsive stuff. remember that the LFS is a business and wants your money more than they want you to have happy fish. most anyway.

1.025 is not brackish! That's full strength marine, I keep my reef tanks at that level! brackish tank should be between 1.005 to 1.015

I do sympathize however...Fish stores are like any business, some staff know more than others, some staff are true hobbyists, other are not, etc. I would hope that I would be able to get decent advice going into a store to buy something I knew nothing about (say a computer lol), and the same applies to LFS. Staff should be able to provide accurate info about the animals they are selling. I have worked at several (and used to manage one) LFS, and always encouraged the staff to read through the reference books we keep, and to ask questions if they are unsure.
