Forgot to ask... Did you buy the XP3 new and did you place the media it brought in the baskets?

ya bought it new and put the stuff in the baskets... i think it can use more of the black star things..the lil bag that came with the xp3 didnt fill the whole basket.. but the white circle things in the bag filled up the basket

What kinda lighting you got there?? It's lookin kinda sweeeet!! Just provide the brand and what kind of bulb it is....

light box says jebo mw-2-30w

Which white circle things?

I would recommended you take out the carbon and fill up the basket with the black stars all the way, as well as add some more to the basket where the carbon is(should be on top below the microfilter pad).

The stars are pretty expensive though around 15 dollars for 20 or so, but you can also buy bioballs which work just as good.

OK, a few things please:

1. Please cycle for a lot longer than a few days. I'd go a few weeks since you don't have another tanks in the room.

2. Add more filtration, as stated. I'd go with large hang on back filter.

3. Discus would be a wrong choice unless you can do the following:

a. large water changes on regular basis
b. much more filtration
c. hot water - i.e., 82-84 degrees
d. NO PLECOS - they feed off the slime of discus.
e. bare bottom tank, unless you can ensure a and b.

i took out one set of 20 / 30 filters. i only run the bottom half of the bottom basket with a 20 and 30. i filled the bottom basket upper half with seachem matrix. it fit right in the basket without needing any kind of bag. big als online sells the 4L bucket for 19.99. its seems like enough to last me a couple years on one xp3.

the middle basket lower half is the bio chem stars. i was lucky and got another bag shipped off ebay for 7 bucks so 40 stars total in that basket half. the middle basket upper half again is all seachem matrix.

the upper basket lower half is a bio-chem zorb pouch with the polishing filter in the upper half. i am not a fan of the polishing filter and am leaning towards pulling it out, moving the zorb pouch up, and adding more biomedia.

i am running this on a 45 with 4 goldfish and 3 small bala sharks and its not enough. i plan to add an ac110 to aid in the filtration. imho you just cant overdue the filtration. more more more....

i just thought of something....is it bad that i put the good bactiera in b4 the water conditioner? does this mean i have to go get another bottle of good bactiera? add the water conditioner then the new bactiera? or can i put the water conditioner in now and it will be ok??? tank was filled last night

Depends how much chlorine is in the water, and how much dissipated and how much aeration went on since you filled it.

By the way, what's the rush? Why not let your tank cycle properly, i.e. over time?

I'll repeat my previous advice since its worth mentioning again:

1. Please cycle for a lot longer than a few days. I'd go a few weeks since you don't have another tanks in the room (I guess).

2. Add more filtration, as stated. I'd go with large hang on back filter.

3. Discus would be a wrong choice unless you can do the following:

a. large water changes on regular basis
b. much more filtration
c. hot water - i.e., 82-84 degrees
d. NO PLECOS - they feed off the slime of discus.
e. bare bottom tank, unless you can ensure a and b.

I still really do like your tank by the way - just my advice for what its worth.

Alot of people on here like to cycle their tanks without adding any bacteria and letting the nitrogen cycle do its thing naturally. Theres nothing wrong with speeding up the process though. Why wait a month to put in fish, when you can do it in a couple days?

ya im going to wait more then a few days.. ill wait a week im in no hurry i defently want to do it right... this dude at the fish shop said since i didnt put the water conditioner/ dechlorinator that the chlorine thats in my water killed all the good bacteria that i put in.. sooo he said i need to get another bottle of good bacteria.. pour in the waterconditioner/dechlorinator first...let it cycle then put the good bacteria....
