new 110gal freshwater

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You need to put water conditioner on water regardless to dechlorinate it. Besides water conditioner you need tot est the PH of your tap water and make sure its adequate for your fish. If not, seachem makes a product called neutral regulator(so do alot of other brands) which makes your PH a 7.0.

If you want to cycle fast, add the bacteria in the water and have your filters running. Take a test of your water parameters every day, and when you have 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite your tank should be cycled. Your nitrate should increase over time, and this is why we do water changes, to get these out!

Warning though, a brand new tank with brand new filters with brand new water and decorations and substrate, without any other tanks in the room, can crash double quick at almost anytime (in my experience). I'd be wary and error on the side of caution. I.e., taking my time in stocking. I.e., go real slow no matter the readings.

Looks good but your going to hate that rena.

Why would you say that? Rena is a great if not the best filter for someone who just started out. Its simple, easy to clean, and provides pretty good flow for the price.

Okay, Im glad other people have had success with them. I have 2 and they are constantly causing me problems. The clog easy, are hard to prime, and the middle holder that holds the impeller always slides out no matter how tight I put it. Maybe its just bad luck for me.

the filter thing?..whys that? i shoulda got that black and orange one? ( i dont know names yet)

now that i've posted pro rena it's only beacuse i could not afford the fx5. if money was no option i would have gone fx5 (black and orange one) or eheim.
