New 300G Setup

I've been using the Ranco ETC-111000 on two of my tanks, soon to be three. They've been rock solid since I started using the thermowells. You can see it in the picture at the top of this page.

Let me know if your interested. I can post how I've got them wired. Easy stuff.

Thanks Randy. I'm definitely interested in seeing how they're wired. I'm in the process of setting up a 400g tank and have been muddling over how to heat the tank as well as how to make it failsafe from heaters failing on or failing off unexpectedly.
 
Not a problem. I'll post a copy of my wire diagram tonight.

I like the redundancy too. I use (2) heaters in my 90 and (3) in my 300. That way if a heater drops off there's still heat coming from the other(s). Also, I set the temperature of each individual heater in the low 80s. That way if the Ranco were to stick open the heater thermostats would kick off before the water got too hot.

It turns out the wiring diagram in the Ranco instructions are much better then the hand sketch I had! LOL Wiring the unit for 110 is very easy though.

Well big day at work anyway. Glasscages said it was too big to drop off at the house so I had them drop it at the loading dock at work. It is glass, just looked at the bill of landing. Tank is 666 pounds, stand is 375, so it’s going to be fun getting it home. Going to stash it in the garage while I drill and paint the back, then have the team at work come back and help me get it in the house.

Oh man! That is some major weight.

I had my 300 dropped off at work too. Then we man handled it into the shop truck to get it home. But mine was acrylic so four guys could handle it, but even then it was a struggle. We had to take it out the back of the garage down a hill, and into my walkout man cave. There was snow on the ground so we strapped it on a big ice shanty sled! Lol Worked like a champ.

It‘s just a cheapie three position 110 adapter. I was surprised when I found out the heater plugs aren‘t even grounded so neither is the adapter.

I don’t remember for sure the sizes of the heaters. It seems like I bought a couple of 200 watts then decided to add a third. I think the third one is 300 watts, I know it’s longer also. I figured the wattage to heat the tank would be constant no matter how large the heaters. The bigger ones don’t need to work as hard.
