All I know is:

1.Salt would be too expensive.

2. It would be a waste on koi.

3. It would also be a waste on any natives.;)

This is pretty much exactly what I was thinking. Saltwater would end up with a dozen clownfish in a couple anemone, not exactly stellar and would take up about 2% of the tank. The cost of all the stuff needed to do salt reliably (not to mention salt itself for weekly water changes and 3500 gallons to fill it with!) would put it over budget really quickly. It certainly wouldn't bankrupt the company, but not exactly a high priority item.

I think I can get my filtration/chemicals along with a UV filter and pump and have several hundred dollars left for fish in my budget. I also have a monthly budget for food/maint. That amount will not get me many aros or rays, but will get a good size ray and a pair of smaller aros. I do like the idea of it being a LFS rescue tank- could end up with some cool stuff! I had a pair of large Oscars in my 110 gallon for years and that would be cool.

I live in NW Indiana, and the tank is at my workplace over in Chicago Heights. I would have gone in the office this weekend to snap some pics but I was busy all day yesterday and today at a horse show. :-)

Saltwater would be cool but it would be pretty costly for such a large set-up.

I would do a whole amazon-biotype, aros, rays, tsn, rtc, etc.

So this is a pond, right? no side viewing windows? it so, I'd say some large catfishes because they look beasty (and are beasty) from the top. you gotta find display fish that look good from the top, have low maintanence, and don't crap their body weight. I'd say pbass, rays, or maybe an arapaima if you have a lake to put it in later... just my two cents. my ideas are worth more than that, of course.
