New addition- gt grow out thread.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It’s been months since I last updated and a lot has been changed.
The girls aggression went crazy and Oliver got a slight case of hith. They are no longer in his tank. I had his son with him for a couple months, but moved him out yesterday since he was only showing submissive colors and looking drab.
Oliver is now alone minus two fry (1”-2”) that I haven’t even attempted to catch. I’ll remove them when I can.
His head has gone way down with no females to entertain. Other then that no growth to really make note of.

Tank shot. The plants seem to keep dying down. Not sure what I can do to make them gown better:/ 936D5F2B-88B4-4592-8D76-70EA697A06E2.jpeg

Thanks duanes duanes !

He's beautiful! So he's still 10 inches long? Did you have to treat his hole in the head with medication or did it heal on its own just by removing the females and reducing stress?

Your male looks so "mature" compared to mine. Mine is 9 inches and I've had him for 1½ year, but he's still baby-faced. He still has that "slender and athletic" body shape that juveniles have and hasn't bulked up yet. But to compensate, he has the most orange tail I have ever seen on a green terror! I say he has an orange tail with a blue band rather than a blue tail with an orange band. lol
I wonder if he'll eventually get that "mature" look that yours has or if he'll just keep this "big baby" look he has going on.

He is a bit over 10” but I haven’t pushed to get an exact measurement.
I used hexshield for five days I believe it was. Upped water changes and removed the females. I feel all those things were needed to get him better and that doing just one wouldn’t have been enough.
Stress was for sure the cause of the hith.

Your boy is gorgeous!
That “mature” look I think is really just the display of dominance. Something a happy unchallenged cichlid will have no need to display. Not that they can’t, just that it isn’t something their body will do without encouragement. If that makes sense.
My male has already lost a lot of size on his head. Kinda sad, but he is healthy and that means so much more to me.
Don’t be sad if yours never gets a big hump. You have obviously been keeping him very happy! His tail color is phenomenal!

He's always fighting and flirting with his reflection, but I guess he figured that since the other fish (his reflection) doesn't have a hump he doesn't need one either. lol

I don't really expect him to ever grow a hump, but I wonder if he'll ever bulk up like yours or if mine is just the slender type.

Epic thread! Great job raising this guy! I've always loved GT but never kept over to it's full potential.
