They were called "Black Line Pikes" when I originally got them :naughty: Then I gave em to a buddy that was real good with pikes and they came back to me about a year ago. All of the arrows pointed to Vennie, but, Vennies aren't described, so, who can say for sure

I think in the end we're going to find that like marmorata, johanna & lenticulata, there are a number of geographical variants of Cr. lugubris including what you have, sp. "Atabapo I" and what is considered an sp. "Venezuela".

Regardless, it is a gorgeous fish!

How bout them still shots huh? The video is great and all but it doesn't allow for good visualization. Plus you have intense photography skills, so it would be definitely worth it. Try to snap a few of the pelvic fins too. . . .

Anything else, Sir Peanut?

Just buggin, Jer.

I'll get some pics once he leaves the safety of the driftwood. The lent was in it's turf last night shaking things up, but the new pike is in good shape still.

Indeed, it makes things rather complicated as well for identification purposes. Mind boggling so. I definitely agree with Mark though about it being a sp. 'lugubris' and not a sp. 'venezuela'. Simply a beautiful fish!

I hate posting crappy pix like this one, but he's not out much, AND Jer can see the pecs and the anal fin in this pic so I figured what the heck. ;)

Looks an awful lot like my lugubris "red face"

You know, for a pike without intricate patterns or bold bright colors, that is a REALLY good looking fish.... Im really into the red eyes and undertones.

Yeah, the eyes are mesmerizing! I wish I had a pair. The cruddy thing is I'll probably never be able to source another of the same variant/location.
