New Addition

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For future reference, do you think a 180 or 220 gal tank is big enough for a fire eel?

From the research I did before getting my fire eels, a 220 should be the minimum. However, the 180 has the same footprint so I don't really see a problem with it except for the additional 40 gallons and height, but I don't know how much that matters. I ended up going with a 220. I would have gone bigger but I had to compromise with my wife on the size. Lol

Same here but swap husband. ;)
I won't be upgrading for a year or so. Jut doing research for fun now. Thanks!

Thanks a lot! I'm going to give him a few more weeks in here and then try moving him out into the 220 with the others. I think that once he gets out there with some substrate, more room and some tankmates, his color will really start to come out.

It's been a while, but today was moving day. I just did about a 75-80% water change on my 220 yesterday and today I moved my newest guy into it from the 29 gallon quarantine. I keep both tanks at the same temp and use the same aged tap water for them. Because the water is essentially the same, I gently netted him out of the 29 and took him straight to the 220 in the other room. He took it like a champ. He has been in the tank for 10-15 minutes as I write this and even though there are plenty of hiding places, he has been out exploring the whole time. Here are some pictures of him.

Very nice progress with that one. I check out the fire eels every time I am at the lfs, they are very high on my list. One of these days......
