very neat tank. i need to build a 72"x18"x72" aquarium. dimensions are LXWXH. WHAT GLASS THICKNESS DO YOU RECOMMEND? THANKS.

Great start to an awesome tank!! May I suggest if you havent already thought of it some white light diffuser(aka eggcrate) to help with pressure points on the bottom of the tank from the rocks.

Stocking, hmm. Thats a sore point at the moment.

I was wanting to put some cichlids in there, but the powers to be doesn't like that idea, they swim to fast according to her. Not relaxing, so as I was lucky enough to have a wife who enjoys my hobby and lets me endulge in it to this degree I have to admit I folded, and we are going to be stocking it with a truck load of tropical fish. ie: tetra's and the likes. Lightly planted it should look pretty damn cool with huge schools of neons, angels etc..

:D

Just pus some very younr small cichlids in there, she might not notice!

Eventually they will take over and eat everything else HAHahAha!!

by then she should be attached, and wont want to get rid of them. Right?

That is a beautiful setup and very well done. It is very modern and I am sure blends in perfect with your home. I am jealous of course! I cant wait to see how you stock it, picture will not do.... video and youtube ;)

:D That's an idea, but I like sleeping in my bed, in my house. The dog kennel just isn't as warm and comfortable!

Thanks for the kind words, We have tried to make it as much a part of the house as possible.

Video may be possible once it is all up and running, but for the time being I think pictures are fine, no-one wants to watch me wash gravel for 4 hours do they?

Just do it!
You know you want to. :naughty:
My only suggestion to people who do something of this size is take your time, it's way more enjoyable.

On a side note, I bought some fluval activated carbon for the filters. I've washed it a couple of times, but it's still leaving the water in the bucket Black.

How much washing does this stuff take?
Do I just keep washing it till the water stays clean?
Haven't had much experiance with carbon.

You want a tank that 6ft long, and HIGH? with only 18" depth? WTF.

Carbon will not make you're water clear, it is made for taking out colours, IE stains from driftwood, smells, medications.

Hmm I've been misinformed.
Bugger.
Thanks for clearing that up.
But the question still stands, if I put the carbon in the filter as it is, it will surely turn all the water black. Thats a hell of a lot of water to change out!
So do i just keep washing it till it stops turning the water black?

Cheers
Dan
