New bass won’t eat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Haha! That’s not a bad problem at all. Man I feel for you bro. Azuls here run $15-$50 depending on the season. How long have your tank been running/cycled? IMO and IME all my fishes have a better appetite after I do a W/C, the bigger the better. Straight out the hose, cold water and everything. I’d personally add SD (Silver Dollars) they, are aggressive eaters and shiny. They draw the Pbass attention, yet too big to be consumed. Also one of my favorite common fish that schools and hardy af.
The tank in question has been up for a few months but the media in the sumps been run for years. My only spare tank at the moment is a 500gallon I’m in the reverse problem to normal too much tank space haha yeah I was thinking silver dollars for there hardiness. I’ve tried frozen krill not blood worms yet I’ll grab some tomorrow with the dithers. I’ll have to water change tomorrow regardless the un eaten pellets have to be sucked out.

So 8 silver dollars and 3 uaru later the bass were mouthing pellets within 3 hours of them going in the tank ? apparently they don’t like sharing. fingers crossed in a day or two they’ll be taking them greedily. I do feel like in a matter of days all my plants will be gone though.

for sure, my SD’s love them some salad!

congrats on bass, I’m in the same boat... only $350 in or so...

they were somehow raised on frozen feeders? Not sure how baby bass eat those?

They are still in a 75g QT tank, thinking of leaving them there as your large tank issue seems real...

Have you tried the typical frozen foods? Brine shrimp, mysis, blood worms? Also you can try bait worms. Maybe even chop them up if too big.

+1 for a grow out tank tho.

not to de rail,

same kind of boat.

4 new - 4”-5” bass raised on frozen feeders.

tried 6-8 kinds of dry, frozen bloodworms, krill, live earthworms. One Tem ate 2/3 of night crawler

gonna grab some silver sides...

am I missing anything other than patience?

they are 10 days here,3 out of qt in a 120 long

If they are eating frozen cut silversides, then the easiest way to convert them, is stuffing the silversides with food sticks. They will start eating pellets and won’t even know it. Then increase the amount of pellets your stuffing in there so they start to develop a taste for them. Eventually they will go for the pellets on their own.
