A good feeding rhom is more likely to grow fatter rather than bigger/longer in the long run and thus likely to be on the unheatlhy side, im saying this after growing one from 9in to 13in in 5 years and is now fed once every 2 weeks or so, it has has been dewormed a few times without there being any evidence of having any afterwards and speaking to people like Mr Mah who have grown rhoms for 20 years and done their research

so you know they are very prone to worm in the aquarium aswell then?

have to agree with Joe on this, i think there are more critical factors that help with growth like zero nitrate, water changes to remove growth inhibiting hormones, and deep tanks that add more than the average water pressure, Ron, how do the worms keep appearing after they`ve been killed by the med?

apparently they just get them back again. its just something to do with the species. all im saying is that they get them, but you wont know they have them, and with a rhoms already slow growth rate, you dont want worms to slow it down even more, and if you have half a brain cell you will know that worms slow the growth of every animal as they generally eat the food the animal eats so the animal doesnt get the nutrients out of the food.

anyway. end of discussion. take the advice, or dont take the advice.. i dont give 2 ****s

by the way, has it not been made absolutely clear to you by this poin that you don't now, nor have you ever owned a rhom? you had an eigenmanni and now you have a mac, so stop with this maximum growth in my rhom talk.

listen if i was that desperate for a rhom i could go and buy a 15" one right now as i know someone just half an hour away selling one for £550 with tank

but when i do get my rhom, which will be very soon, at least i know i will be giving it all it needs to grow as big as possible in a tank

btw... the vet you are talking about? hes a vet he knows everything to do with animals, and the things animals pick up... why coz hes a vet, he doesnt need to study worms to know they will slow the growth of an animal you thick ****

JoeDizzle

you should put your money where ur mouth is. when i buy my rhom, you buy one at the same size. you look after yours your way and i'll look after mine my way, and lets see who gets the best growth rates from their fish

im not having a pop just trying to gain some information myself, thats the first time ive heard that rhoms in particular keep getting worms in the aquaria after they`ve been treated, i dont know but is this true of discus?

A bit of advice for you when you get your rhom, dont feed it too much, especially on oily food such as salmon n trout else its body will grow out of proportion to its head or foods that carry the growth inhibiting hormone such as smelt. The parasitic worm debate has been going on for years it doesnt need a vet to tell you that they absorb nutrients from their host

haha, i don't need to have a rhom grow out contest to prove my fish keeping skills to you. i take great care of my fish and i'm sure others that have seen my stuff for awhile now can attest to that. i couldn't give a **** less what you do with your fish, i just don't understand how you can argue so much and peddle your own unproven ideas as fact. i can make any outrageous claim that i want and argue it all damn day, but the reality is that i would have no argument if i didn't have proof to back it up.

look mate ive heard it other places to, i think there was a thread on piranha fury. this was told to me by a vet, let me tell you what a vet does for a living coz u obviously dont understand...lol he cures animals of sickness injuries, and also deals with many animals infected with parasites of all different forms.
i dont see what ur big hang up is, just worm ur rhom about 3 times a year to ensure growth isnt slowed even more by internal parasites...wtf is so hard to take about that.
