New Black Ghost Knife Won't Eat?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have two also and they really don't come out much through out the day but when the lights go out they always become active.
So far out of all the different kinds of food i have tried they love there frozen blood worms the best.

I would give him at least a week or so to get used to his envirnment before you start to get worried. BGK's are nocturnal so that is why you dont see him out and about during the day. I would recommend keeping a regual feeding schedule and do close to the same thing everytime you feed them. The BGK will catch onto the schdule and will eventually adapt to it. When i fed mine i turn off half of the lights on the tank to let him know im am going to feed him. Now everytime i do that he wakes and and will swim into his tube ready to eat the food. I have had good luck with blood worms and the occansional earthworm. Hope that helps and good luck.

i have had mine for over a year and he comes out all the time. it started out on just bloodworms now it eats prawns and occasionally pellets.

When my N. notopterus first came home he never came out when the lights are on but I see him out even in the middle of the day now. I agree that RTB sharks are a little aggressive, mine is constantly at odds with my Kribensis cichlid but I've never seen him actually hurt another fish.

My red tail shark killed my bgk that was actualy a little bit bigger than it. (3.5) inches. Be careful, I was so upset as I felt the same way you do about yours!

That's interesting because my RTS is afraid of the BGK. The RTS tries to invade the BGK's favorite hiding spot but everytime it does the BGK just chases it off.

The RTS in my tank is actually the most peaceful out of the gourami, pictus, bgk, and plecos i have.

it's simple to traing ghosty from eating or coming out in light.
I use a simple tapping on the glass before feeding.
Once they get used to this, they will come out whenever you tap.
Oh I never feed them during night.
PS. it takes a few weeks for the small ones to get used to the tank so give it some time.

Do yours come out during the day? How long does it take for them to be accustomed to light?
I've had mine for about 2 weeks now and it doesn't seem to have read the literature about being nocturnal or hiding in caves......buzzes about all day and flops down wherever for a snooze....completely ignoring the hollow log in the tank and happy to lay about in the open.......
I have seen it eat frozen bloodworms that the other fish miss but I'm not sure if it is eating enough as still seems incredibly skinny. Aquarium shop (specialist aquarium shop, not a general pet store) I purchased it from advised one cube of frozen blood worms every second day so will see. I did drop in a few extra worms last night about 15mins after switching off the lights so hopefully it managed to get hold of some.
Looking now for a feeding tube to try get the worms directly down in front of it....any excuse to get to Bunnings!
Cheers all
