Good start on things-
The camera you bought is a great camera and a step up from what I actually use....

Listen to Rally's words-Wise man he is.....

You above outside pics look good-I can't read you exif Info-Did you use flash for your outside shots?...

You fish shots-Stay away from that on board flash.....Try your hand with your tank lights on and room lights off and adjust setting accordingly-Might need to gather more lighting to toss above your tank....

Thank you very much. On the outside shots the flash was off on most of them. I believe I tried using it on a couple of shots but I can't remember.

I am wanting to purchase a flash that I can use to put on top of the tank but I really don't know what to buy. I would rather not pay a fortune but at the same time I don't want to buy a piece of junk. I also want to buy a lens that I can get some macro shots but once again I have no idea what I should spend my money on.

I just took a few pictures of Lucy to give me a starting point to reference later on.

IMO the first thing to get would be the flash, then look for used lenses later. I get my lenses from www.jackscamera.com because it's local to me.

Keep an eye out, you might be able to get a used canon flash. If you're going to be doing family, friend, and indoor shooting a flash that supports TTL helps tremendously. It's not as important for aquatic photography IMO.

Depending on your budget, loog at the Canon Speedlight 580EX II, and the speedlight 430EX II
the 580 is about the fastest recharging flash I have ever seen.

The 430 is also a great choice.
When looking for lenses, it is agood idea to know what types of subjects you will be planning to shoot.
What lenses do you currently have?

I use a Canon XSi (450D)

I was very close to buying the XSi, I just didn't think that being a beginner it would make that much of a difference for me. I have 30 days to change my mind though. :D

The only lens I have is the EFS 18-55 that came with the camera. With the speedflashes can they be used off of the camera as well as on? I would like to be able to place them over the aquarium facing down while I take pictures from in front of the tank.

Yep, over the tank using either a transmitter or a cord off the camera. The transmitter is more money but well worth it, imo.

Does anyone know of any good places to find used flashes and lenses other than ebay? I don't have anything against ebay, I just like to know my options.

B&H photo is pretty good too. They have all kinds of stuff. It's almost easier to get their catalog. It's easier to browse than their website IMO.
