New Conkel Order (load warning)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
jgentry, the Loiselle book and the Konings book are both very good to have. The Loiselle book is a requirement IMO especially for general cichlid keeping and theory, and the Konings book would be a good supplement.

What to do with 800 Catemaco?........... Well, you DO have those umbees, don't you? ; )

Thanks for the info. I'll check around for deals on both of those books.

I have enough crypto culls at any time to keep the umbees fat. But everyone always says to feed a fish a varied diet;). Maybe Fenestrutus will be on Tuesday's and Thursday's menue.

All are currently in ponds so pick won't really show much. The Regani will be getting moved to a 220g next week so I can get some pics of them up soon.

was more interested in the umbee's but thanks

They are actually in a divided 75g at the moment. I can get pics up of them this weekend. They are doing great. Eating frozen krill really well and fattening up a lot compaired to when I got them. They bicker across the diver constantly. No way these guys are ever going to be compatable without a divider.

I am curious to see there freckling and body structure

Well, I've finally gotten around to a small update. The fish seem to be doing well. The regani are still very shy and not eating reall well yet but seem to be slowly coming around. The Umbriferus are complete pigs. They eat better then anything. They have really fattened up considering they are newly wild caught. The Argentea are eating great and doing well. The fenestratus sp catemaco were slow to start eating but are now eating well. I have a batch of fry form the big orage male and white and black speckled female growing out. Looks to be 700+ of them.

Here are a few very bad pics as always.

Anyone with umbee experience know what I should expect from this guy? He's about 7.5". Is this going to be a good one? The pair will eventually get my 220g, then most likely my 600g pond. If I can get them to that size without screwing something up first;). So far so good. They have been hardy, eat well, and aggressive. I haven't seen any of the issues that some of the folks reported with the first batch of wilds but my tap water is pretty much identical to there natural habitat too. That's always a plus.

Fentratus sp "catemaco"
Here's a pic of the trio enjoying there living space

Regani wouldn't come out of there pots in my 220g for a picture. Maybe next time.

Love the pics!

You forgot to mention the cutteri that snuck into frame! He looks great!

Are those the standard blue umbees? Yours kind of reminds me of the greens. Could just be the light, etc. Fat little guys regardless.

Those fene catemacos must have all been ready to pop with eggs. My lfs got another batch of large breeding pairs in, and they all went to work immediately. Eggs and fry everywhere!

They are Magdalena (spelling, to lazy to look it up) collected. I thought that was the blues territory but I'm not that experienced with these guys at all so someone that does know please say so. I thought the greens were form Panama and the blue Columbia but like I said, not an expert, or even experienced with these fish. I believe they are going to spawn pretty soon as they are flaring across the divider a lot.

I'm guessing most of the adult fish from Don are all about to pop. Spring it's spring in Florida and all the fish should be spawning or prepping to.

Yep that's a cutteri for the fish to play with. The other fish above the argentea on the left is a big male sajica.
