  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hey nice discus. i really like the orange and the red one. the blue discus is a blue diamond. it doesnt look stunted to me. it just looks stressed out. blue diamond often look that way. once it gets used to your tank, it should expand its fins and look like the others.

I did purchase that fish as a blue diamond. I also took that picture the same day I received him. I also took that picture through a 72 gallon bowfront so the picture could have gotten distorted from that. Since the first picture I added some more plants and driftwood. Here is the tank now. I will try to get another close up of the fish soon. He is behind the driftwood now. It's getting late for them. Lol! Here is the new tank shot. I will be adding a background tomorrow.

It looks better. He still looks a little dark though but with time and care he's color should come out more

The eyes are a dead give away, when they are large in proportion to his body then he's stunted look at the others in comparison, if he's being picked on rectifying this will be tricky but keeping the temp high and feeding high protein food a lot in tune with lots of water changes can help the fish grow normally

Like I said I got this fish only 7 days ago. In my tank he is not being picked on. Right now I feed bloodworms, blackworms, omega one flakes, and pellets. I've been mixing it up for them to provide them with variety. As with all my tanks, I am really good with changing the water. I have an RO system set up in my house. How many times a week should I be changing the water for the discus tank?

IMO when they're young they need frequent wc. As often as possible. You'll ensure they grow up healthy. I do 30% wc 2-3per week. Some people do massive wc (60% and up) cause they want to have huge discus. It depends on your commitment.

It is badly stunted and has a very bad elongated shape and huge eyes. It could be harboring some parasites or could just be a fish that should have been culled. Not trying to be mean, my first discus were not great quality. I did not know better then but now I do. The reds look decent. Keep the water clean and go over to simplydiscus and do some reading, look and Kenny's pictures of his shipments to see what a quality discus looks like. If you buy more discus consider buying from a sponsor from simply discus, guaranteed great fish and great service.
