New Discus Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Use them to learn the art of keeping discus, they can be tough but are easy once you have some experience. Also 3 discus in a tank is not ideal, groups of 5 is the minimum to spread out aggression. What could happen is 2 of the fish will bully the 3rd relentlessly until it gets sick and dies, especially if 2 pair up.

^ agree. Think about adding two or three more. That said it looks like a nice tank I would personally add more plants but that's just what I would do. I wouldn't worry too much about if he's stunted most people that will see your tank will just see a beautiful fish.

I was going to add a few more. I was just looking for the right ones. I was going to order them on Monday or Tuesday. I love the plants too. I was going to my lfs today to pick up a few more. Lol. I was also thinking of adding another small piece of driftwood. The rams seem to enjoy all the hiding places from the wood.

IMO when they're young they need frequent wc. As often as possible. You'll ensure they grow up healthy. I do 30% wc 2-3per week. Some people do massive wc (60% and up) cause they want to have huge discus. It depends on your commitment.

Agree with this 100%. Water changes need to be frequent during growth, but not overkill. Three times a week at 30-40% is perfect without being too hard on you or your water bill. But like Fibbing said, if you want massive discus, daily water changes of about 50% are common if you are looking for that. In my opinion, the large daily water changes help to keep contaminants at a bare minimum level and don't expose the fish to much, which results in very large discus that tend to be fragile. I would rather have tough, healthy fish that aren't super sized than to have massive discus who would die at the drop of a hat. Just my opinion. I know there are many who will disagree with me.
