Good, so I can expect it to live longer than any of the Fluvals I've owned? :headbang2

It came with the tank, so I really have no idea how old it is. It's in fine shape, though. Does the filter come with a weird spray bar? The one mine came with is about 2 1/2 feet long, and it T's off the filter output line....

Unless you use the polishing filter pad or have a killer bioload, I'd say once every 2 or 3 months, or at least that is my cleaning schedule with the cascades. If you ever want to sell that cascade, I'd be very interested (I just like to have the same filters so I can buy the same sponges for multiple filters)

obviously you're spoiled by those fancy german engineered canisters, lol! I have an eheim that, like you said only requires cleaning every 6 months or so.

I've got the filter filled with quilt batting...giving that a try to see how it works. I fully expect it'll clog like a polishing pad will. The other baskets are filled with Eheim biomedia and a little Fluval biomedia I had hanging around.

Ahhh...German Teutonics...:D I just love how my Eheim plunger feels in my hand as I lovingly prime my fiilters. :D :D

I have a magnum 350 filter that barely has flow through it right now... lol
It's such a hassle to clean, I'm just not looking forward to it.

my first canister was a mag 350...... hated it althought if just left as a water polisher it seemed to do decent but you had to clean it all the time.

I pick up eheim classics on ebay for real good prices I just love these filters they make no noise and set em and forget em
