Great job on the filter

Which places in canada did you find the k1 media in? thx

canadiankoiandpond.ca

pondexperts.ca

I got mine from the first one, the second was out of stock...

I bought and paid for it twice from the states from two different suppliers, but was shortly refunded my money shortly after, and told to get it locally.. :irked:

Took some time to get it, but i finally did..... now i need more... :D

I got mine to work via a Hi_Blow 40... Currently running it now. Has any one Test before after after NH4 & NO2 readings?

This is the most informative DIY sump thread I have seen! Thank you!
I'm setting my next sump up like this! The only thing I don't like is the sponge before the pump. You were saying drilling or putting a drip plate in there for that last baffle. I think that would work. I have this plastic peg board that I cut to fit for my drip plates. I think it would work vertically as long as the air bubbles flow up against the peg board keeping the media from getting sucked to the holes. What about a drip plate for both baffles? Does the flow matter?
For the intake to the sump are you going with filter socks for the mechanical filtration?

Thanks....

That peg board would work ok, but it looks like you couldn't get a lot of flow threw it. It would have to be tested first.

Im just going to use acrylic for where the water flows under the baffles.. I don't like the sponge where the pumps are either, it was only temporary until i figure something out.

A drip plate for both baffles would work as well, but you wont be able to control the flow of the water as well. As you can see, the flow in my K1 is circular. I think if the baffles were drip plates, you would loose a lot of that circulation.

I do plan on getting some filter socks for that sump, but i only have about 3.5" of width to put them.. so im not sure how im going to work that.

Once i get the socks figured out and installed, i think i'll be removing the sponge under the drain as well, and replacing that with an acrylic plate with holes in it as well.

Great job, I personally dont think you need more K1; it might impair the mobility of it. Your tank also doesnt look overstocked and the K1 provides ample BB. If you wish to beef up the BB, I personally like Seachem Matrix, you can place a lot of it in the intake or pump sides. It also has been proven to reduce nitrates when always submerged.
